hands-on-mama
Hi all! We have finally decided that we will be switching to Singapore for many reasons. Which version is your favorite and why? There are 3 different versions now, so this decision is quite hard.
sunshineslp
Standards. More review and practice and I've heard the HIG is better... But we just started so I can't say for sure yet:) Homeschooling mama of 4... Preschool 3, preschool 4, 1st, and 2nd:)

WahM
I agree with the above reasons for the standards version. It also has full color text books just in case that appeals to your kids.
TKDmom
I use Standards. I like it over the US edition purely for aesthetic reasons, although I've also read that the HIGs are much better for Standards. I haven't seen the newest edition, and I don't see any reason to change from the edition that's already working well for me.
kbutton
We use the US Edition and add in the intensive Practice books. I opted for less color on purpose--it's too much for my older son. I don't think you can go wrong with Standards or US. I don't know what the other option is? Maybe a CC edition? I stopped keeping track. Arcadia
My boys prefer the colorful standards edition. I like the standards edition because it tally with the previous California math standards. My boys finished the series before the common core edition was out.
Laura Corin
I started off with 3rd Edition (the Singapore version) and used a mix of that and US. The only difference at that stage was that the US version included some practice with imperial weights and measures, and I it had US coinage. You could switch between the two pretty easily. Dmmetler
My DD liked the New Primary Maths (Shing Lee), solely because the illustrations were mostly of animals, rather than cartoon children like in Standards. She also liked that it was "Singapory"-a lot of the word problems referenced animals, plants, foods, and locations in Singapore, which added a level of interest for her. I used the US IP and CWP, and would have used the Standards HIG (I'd done Singapore math teacher training, so I discovered early on that for me the HIG was redundant with my notes, etc from those classes). I did add US currency and measurement.
Chelli
Math in Focus is my favorite. I couldn't figure out how to teach Standards even with the HIG. It was just so different from the way I was taught math. The student textbook that MIF uses was simple to teach out of and helped me understand. Plus my kids love the color in the textbook. Games, hands on activities, and difficult word problems are all already included in the textbook so no need for extras. Plus you can buy the student textbooks for super cheap used on Amazon and the workbooks new from Rainbow Resource. I've not needed the teacher's manual at all so far and I've taught through the 4th grade book.
mckive6
I've used Standard from 1st through 5th. I like the HIG, and the textbook and workbook. We've also used the Challenging Word Problem book most years.

SevenDaisies
I assume you are talking about Singapore Primary Math. I prefer the Standards Edition. The only issue is that they may be discontinuing it in favor of the Common Core Edition. Unfortunately, the Singapore forum has been down for more than a month, so you can't see if updates have been posted. You may want to email Jenny at Singapore for the latest. The CC edition is supposed to be very similar to standards, but there is no HIG. The Standards HIG is better than the US HIG and all the textbooks are in color. sweetpea3829
Standards, but I would love to take a look at MIF.
Spy Car
I preferred the Standards to the US Edition. There was more review, additional topics, color throughout in the Textbooks, and more content (with a lower cost per page that the US Edition, although slightly more expensive over all). The HIGS, as many have noted, are also better. I am not familiar with the CC Edition. Some, like those whose children are distracted by color or who don't do well with review, might prefer the more stream-lined US Ed. Had they been the exclusive offering I'd have used it without complaint. Bill
Spy Car
Standards, but I would love to take a look at MIF. There was (at least at one time) a way to preview MiF online. Perhaps someone remembers the link? Bill
Roadrunner
Another vote for Standards or the US edition. We also like the built in review as well as additional topics. CC edition is so new, I bet very few people have used it. Edited January 17, 2016 by Roadrunner
sweetpea3829
There was (at least at one time) a way to preview MiF online. Perhaps someone remembers the link? Bill That would be excellent. Primarily, I would like to see the HIG for MiF. Sometimes I don't mesh well with the HiG for Standards, lol.

If I recall correctly they e-mail you the info needed to do that after filling the form out. It might take a day or two though. They allow homeschoolers to view it as well.
SparklyUnicorn
Also, Christian Book dot com has some pretty decent samples of the books and no signing up for anything.
