TwoEdgedSword Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I have a daughter who is a decent, but averaged speed runner who is all of a sudden interested in running track her last year of high school. She plays other varsity sports, but has never been on a track team. Is this even possible or is being part of the track team a tough try out process? I'm not sure if her average times wouldn't help the team enough or do they look at times more individually? Thanks for any help. Quote
MEmama Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 In our area, anyone can be on the team. I think that's pretty standard in track and cross country. Hope she has fun! :) 2 Quote
Faithr Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 My son was on a track team but didn't need to try out. They competed against private schools and another homeschool team. It was all about personal best. I think she should go for it! 2 Quote
OhioMomof3 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I spoke to the athletic director at the public school about this the other day. He said that anyone could be on the team, but they sometimes would have to limit who they could take to certain invitationals. In those instances, the coach would probably take the top 2-3 athletes per event. Quote
mckive6 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Our high school allows anyone to join. The coach usually decides who runs what distances. There is JV and Varsity so everyone usually gets to compete. 1 Quote
