I have a daughter who is a decent, but averaged speed runner who is all of a sudden interested in running track her last year of high school. She plays other varsity sports, but has never been on a track team. Is this even possible or is being part of the track team a tough try out process? I'm not sure if her average times wouldn't help the team enough or do they look at times more individually?

Thanks for any help.

My son was on a track team but didn't need to try out.  They competed against private schools and another homeschool team.  It was all about personal best.  I think she should go for it!

I spoke to the athletic director at the public school about this the other day. He said that anyone could be on the team, but they sometimes would have to limit who they could take to certain invitationals. In those instances, the coach would probably take the top 2-3 athletes per event.
