elegantlion
I'm looking specifically at grad school, but any observations or thoughts on the school or area are appreciated. It's on my short list right now because of the faculty.
Dmmetler
Beautiful area, Cold in winter, hot and dry in summer, low COL compared to either East or West coast. I would suggest making sure that the student will have everything they need in the metropolitan area, because that's an area where distance is measured in hours, not miles.
GoodGrief
We lived in Albuquerque for a couple years, and Santa Fe for a couple more. I really like the area. The area was growing fast when we were there and becoming a bit congested. People are pretty casual, which I enjoy.

Pretty sure ABQ has everything I would "need" during grad school. We lived in Albuquerque for a couple years, and Santa Fe for a couple more. I really like the area. This is an issue with another school I'm considering, but the landscape there is not anything I'd consider scenic. Laid back I can do. Congested, well, I'm going to get that wherever I go, I think.
