Guest photogramommy
Good morning everyone! I'm looking for some advice about curriculums to follow FLL. I've gone through all 4 years with my daughter, who is now in 5th grade. We started grammar with a classical co-op this school year and it's just not working for us. I'd love to find out if there is another curriculum comparable to FLL that could be used afterward to reinforce all of the skills learned. Thoughts? Thanks. Aurelia
I think most people use Rod & Staff grade 5.

cintinative
There are a bunch of threads on this that I have looked at. The predominant ones recommended if you want to continue diagramming are: Rod and Staff 5 Hake (Saxon) Grammar 5 sometimes--Shirley Grammar (note very different approach with this one) also--Analytical Grammar or Jr. Analytical Grammar note: Analytical Grammar is supposed to be 6th grade and up and from what I have "heard" it is not a good idea to push it to a lower grade After considering all our options, I am going with Jr. Analytical Grammar. It is only grammar, which is what I wanted. It is going to be a lot of review for us but I think my youngest ds could use that. We are definitely not ready for the full Analytical Grammar and I just didn't want to wade through all the extra stuff in Hake and R&S that we didn't need (spelling, vocab, etc.). That is totally a personal decision so I encourage you to look at all and see what fits you best!
Guest photogramommy
Cintinative, thank you for your help on this - your comments give me a few more options to research. I just briefly looked at Rod & Staff and was considering the same as you - that I don't need all of the extras. I'll check out the other curriculums you suggest - really appreciate your input. Miss Tick
AG doesn't expect any grammar prior to starting, so maybe just take the rest of the year off and pick up there - if the program appeals. It is also sry up so that you do grammar as a subject for 10ish weeks then just occasional review. I live that idea. Pleas note, this is all notional, we finished FLL last year, spent the first half of this year using the ALL beta chapters and now will mostly let the grammar slot in our schedule be filled by other things until next year. Haiku
We floundered after FLL ended, going through several curricula my dd disliked. We finally settled on Grammar for Middle School, which is from the Kilgallons. I wasn't convinced it would be worthwhile, but dd loves it, and she's learning, so I'm satisfied. They also have Story Grammar for elementary-age kids.
jens2sons
The Well trained Mind suggests moving in to Rod & Staff English. No earlier than English 3 though. I switched over and really like R&S.
ByGrace3
We completed FLL 1-4 and for 5th grade this year, I am having my dd find parts of speech from sentences in our reading, and diagramming them. Next year we are most likely going with Analtycal Grammar. I am also considering Hake, but like others have mentioned, I want just grammar and I don't think I want to wade through... Cindyz
We finished FLL in 4th. This year for 5th we are doing Fix it Grammar and enjoying it. We do it double time (2 days' of lessons each day instead of 1), and it's going great. For 6th grade we will start Analytical Grammar.
