athena1277
My dad is having some trouble with his grip (he has Parkinson's). He wants a microwaveable coffee mug (or similar size) that does not have the slick, smooth handle of regular mugs. Before he was having this trouble, he saw some mugs that were rough on the handle, like they hadn't been fired properly. I have been looking all over online and can't find anything that would meet his needs. It seems like something that would surely exist somewhere, but I can't find that place. Super searchers, please help!

Bluegoat
You might also go to a potter, and have one made.
aggie96
Not really as you described but throwing this out there. www.handsteady.com It's microwaveable and dishwasher safe. Rotating handle for help with grip.

Sigh.
athena1277
This is microwaveable plastic http://www.rehabmart.com/product/handtohand-mug-18557.html Or what about something like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003CV1UZS/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?qid=1451508975&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX118_SY170_QL70&keywords=Silicone+grip+mug&dpPl=1&dpID=41eKFBubLTL&ref=plSrch Eta: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00GY5Y73Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?qid=1451509323&sr=8-10&pi=AC_SX118_SY170_QL70&keywords=Parkinson+mug That last one is a possibility. He has to have a handle and that's the past that has to have a better grip. I don't think he gets that 2 handles would be helpful, but maybe if it's there and he starts using it, he will like it.
aggie96
http://www.elderstore.com/silicone-grip-mug.aspx Along the same idea as kand posted above. Silicone grip but no handle. Another idea. Not sure about source. http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/15oz-white-wholesale-ceramic-mugs-with_967291283.html?spm=a2700.7724857.29.100.rM11HG
zoobie
A good friend of mine makes mugs and other beautiful, useful things. I'm sure she or another potter would customize something for you! If you want her etsy shop or FB, lmk.
Mergath
Maybe try googling for coffee mugs with a matte finish?
Guest
I'd find a ceramist/potter on etsy and just have one custom made.
clementine
Not really as you described but throwing this out there. www.handsteady.com It's microwaveable and dishwasher safe. Rotating handle for help with grip. This looks great! I plan on showing my dh to see if it would work for his mom. Thank you!
ILiveInFlipFlops
Wow, this seems like something that shouldn't be so hard to find! Maybe grab him a few of these on eBay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Starbucks-2008-Coffee-Cup-Mug-White-Green-Rubber-Sleeve-Handle-12-ounce-/172042433640 Oh, or these? http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/handisleeve-coffee-holder My only concern with silicone sleeves is that they can be tricky to get up high enough onto the body of the mug. I have one of those tall white mugs with a silicone lid and sleeve, and sometimes I have to pull and tug to get it up where I want it. Maybe it's because I like holding it at a higher point and with an actual handle that wouldn't matter so much? Might be a factor to consider though. Kebo
Here they are on Etsy for you: https://www.etsy.com/listing/246102716/raw-handle-mugs?ref=shop_home_active_5 They are made to order, so there is a 3-4 week lag time. KungFuPanda
What if you went to a local paint-your-own pottery place and made a mug that wasn't glazed on the outside. They probably have advice or textured paints that would be useful.
