jenn-
I know we are not the only state with flooding issues right now. We are getting pounded yet once again today with relentless rain. Our rivers were already above flood level. My house isn't threatened (and the entire city of Montgomery will be under before it would be), but we live on a plateau and have to go down to the lower elevation and cross streams/rivers to get to anywhere. Currently we have two bridges flooded and the third is being threatened. My DH has to cross that one to get home at this point. He 'might' be able to loop the farthest possible option and still get home, but there is a valley there that the ravine behind my house dumps into and a few large ponds that could flood the roads. We really need it to stop soon.
Arcadia
:grouphug: Hope the third bridge stays passable to traffic for everyone needing to use it. I used to have to wade with my school mates in waist high rain water to get to the bus stop from public school in the city. Traffic lights would stop functioning. PinkyandtheBrains.
Our town is flooded. Thankfully we live up hill and for now our power is back on. My folks are in another town, no power, extensive flooding and their basement is full of water now. Edited December 28, 2015 by PinkyandtheBrains. Rachel
All our neighbors have flooded basements for the second time in years (first was this spring). Our aquifers are completely full. My husband was up until 2 Christmas Eve wading through our crawl space getting the sump pump to work properly again. We have 3 more days of rain expected. As long as it keeps coming down slowly the drainage basins can handle it. I wish we could ship all the excess water west where it's needed. Retired
My area has plenty of flooded area. We are on a hill so its not hurting us personally. My sons are both with local fire department and they have been busy around the clock. I'm on the Coosa River which is controlled by dams but we are still at flood stages. The 100 year flood plains are under water This has happen in the past so the locals are prepared but along with all the water there are lots of roads that have sink/hole washed out. If the op is talking about Montgomery Alabama I'm sure the Alabama river is at flood stage also. We still are getting rain and its still in the forecast for several more days. We have several areas that only access is boats. Then some roads have non moving water that we are using jacked- up 4x4 to get around. We need the rain to stop. It is the creeks backing up because of the overly filled Tallapoosa that are taking out our bridges. My DH made it home okay and he doesn't think the one down the road is threatened, but who knows what we will wake up to in the morning. We must live in the same general area. Carol in Cal.
The flood water is probably pretty toxic as well, what with the sewage and such.

I'm a few counties north of your area on Logan Martin lake. The rain stopped for a few hours this morning but its pretty much been steady for several days. My son's say at this point Alabama power is keeping the lake levels flowing so it shouldn't rise any higher but the draining system for the lakes and roads are not able to keep up. I'm not sure if the Tallapoosa is controlled or not but either way this states water shed system is overwhelmed. I'm glad your husband was able to make it safely. We are suppose to have a dry day tomorrow and more rain Wednesday then hopefully its gone. Praying for everyone's safety in all area of the country. There seems to be extreme weather everywhere. IsabelC
Sounds awful. I hope everyone is OK. It would be nice if you could send some of the rain over here where we need it.
linders
I'm so sorry. We experienced severe flooding here in SC this past fall, and my heart goes out to you. Even when your home isn't hit, watching your community suffer is awful.
