Kindle Fire setup

I bought my 12 yo, 15 yo and 17 yo the $35 Black Friday special Kindle Fires.  I have a Kindle and my dd's Kindle Fire linked to my Amazon account.  In setting up my 12 yo Fire I set up a child profile.  I know I'm supposed to be able to individualize his Kindle to not have everything on it that is on my dd's Fire, but can't seem to be able to do that through manage my family library.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone offer suggestions?  Also, I am considering setting up their own Amazon accounts for my 15 yo and 17 yo so their's is not tied to my account.  I would buy a refillable Amazon card for them.  Is this what most people do?  Thanks, I am not savvy when it comes to this kind of stuff!  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I can't help with the first part, but yes, both my kids have their own Amazon accounts. Youngest DD's is connected to a secondary email of mine, so I see any communications, and I have the passwords to both kids' accounts so I can access them (just in case). I didn't want them messing around in the main household Amazon account, seeing the browsing history (I'm the primary gift buyer!), accidentally buying things on my credit card, etc. Both kids get tend to get Amazon gift cards as gifts, so they apply those in their own accounts and shop as needed. I shared our Amazon Prime shipping with both of them as well (though I'm not sure if you can do that anymore?), so even if they want to shop for physical goods, they can still do it on their own.

It's worked really well for us.
