DawnM
UPDATE: Shoes ordered Background: This child takes care of his shoes better than anyone I have ever met. He loves his DC skate shoes. He wipes off dirt or smudges, and carefully puts them where they won't get stepped on or have things put on top of them. If you HAD the money, but really hated spending that much on shoes, would you: 1. make him pay the difference between what you feel comfortable with and what they cost. 2. go ahead and give him the shoes as a gift and let it go. He was disappointed they weren't under the tree and I told him we would work on getting them after Christmas but I may not get him the exact pair he wants as they were too pricey. They are on sale today, about $10 more than I told him our max was. Your vote for me? Edited December 27, 2015 by DawnM
SparklyUnicorn
How much are the shoes?
Aiden
$10 more than your max? Unless it means no groceries, utilities, or nortgage/rent, I'd just get them. If he wouldn't take care of them, it would be different, but from what you've said, he would truly appreciate and care for them.

DawnM
How much are the shoes? Originally $85, on sale for $60. I told him max was $50. He has a hard to fit foot. I won't go into details publicly but he was born with some foot deformities.

Annie G
I'd buy him the shoes. When he's an adult he might really remember how much he loved the shoes. As long as it's not a slippery slope of wild spending, I'm all for the occasional splurge. Edited December 27, 2015 by Annie G

I'd get the shoes and pay the $10 more.
catz
If he has a hard to fit foot, even more #2. Especially if they are actually good quality shoes he will wear as his primary pair. Now that I have a son wearing men's size 10, $60 seems cheap for decent shoes. ;)
Ottakee
I would get him the shoes if you can afford it. He takes care of them and if they fit his foot well, it is well worth it.

1GirlTwinBoys
I would get them for him. BTW, I thought I was the only one that had a child that cleaned their shoes and took such good care of them.
Mandamom
Are there any coupons to bring the price down any more? We scored a great deal yesterday on boots which was made even better by an unexpected coupon.
AmandaVT
Another vote for getting them, especially if he has a hard to fit foot and these will fit well.
wapiti
I'd do it (and I'm really cheap about shoes for some unknown reason). Plan not to be upset if he should happen to grow two sizes in the next year.

DawnM
Well, problem solved! He came downstairs and I told him we were going to order the shoes as they were on sale. I pulled up the color he had said he wanted and he said, "Oh, I changed my mind. I want the brown ones now." Pulled up the brown ones and they are on sale for $51. Shoes are ordered! THANK YOU!
Chris in VA
I'd get them, probably. We don't do a lot of shoes--just one pair of sneakers at a time, and one pair of dress shoes. Dd has a few more, but wears them til they break (heels, boots, etc.). So I might wait and size up, if his are still in good condition. Ds used to wear DCs--that's a pretty good price for them.
gardenmom5
I'd get them. I'd also be wondering how fast his feet were going to grow.

catz
My son was the kid that could wear a pair of shoes 2 years in some cases. Once he hit men's 7/kids 5 all bets were off. He started skipping sizes! Good luck! :)

Arcadia
Is a kids 5 the same size? I was wondering. Not for all brands. It is for Lands End and Keens but it wasn't for Khombu. My DS11 wears size 8.5 for men.
catz
Is a kids 5 the same size? I was wondering. Actually I have that mixed up don't I? it's women's 7 that's generally more like a kid's 5? I have an 11 year old daughter that recently can get smaller women's sizes so I'm all mixed up! I know I found kids boots in a 7 that the boy was wearing at the same time he had men's 7.5 sneakers. I do think sizing isn't necessarily consistent across brands (annoying!). I prefer European sizing!
