Disappointing gifts check in

Minecraft story mode for Xbox.

We had hoped to be safe since its Minecraft and rated E for everyone.

Just about every bit of dialog has name calling and mild language. I'm more lenient about this than many here and I really didn't like it or how frequently it was used.

What the hell

Crap

Jerk wad

Shut up, losers

And more along the same theme.

My 11 year old played it for about 40 minutes and then got fed up with it and quit. Oh well. He can take it to the resale store and trade it for a better game.

But that's the only bummer this year.

The *main* thing my DS wanted for Christmas was this particular article of clothing by a certain company. We measured together and ordered together.

It doesn't fit. :glare:

He's a teenager, so it's not like he had a fit, but I could tell he was trying not to let his disappointment show. We'll return it for a different size, but still...

DD got a beautiful white leather jacket from her cousins.  They don't have a lot of money.  They bought it at a 2nd hand store.  That always thrills DD.  She much prefers recycling/reusing/retasking something instead of something brand new.  It was really sweet of them to get her such a nice jacket.  However, I guess no one checked the pockets.  When she put the jacket on she found a cigarette butt in one pocket  and a hand rolled cigarette in the other :confused1:  :tongue_smilie:  .  (These particular cousins do not smoke and DD can't stand the smell of cigarettes.) You should have seen DD's face.   Poor kid.  She was very polite about it, though. She just quietly tossed both in the trash.  And she loves the jacket (I promised her we would have it cleaned). :)

I mentioned in another thread I got 10 boxes of gf flour.

That was odd.

That's a bit odd.

My mother got me an ice cream maker. It's a very sweet gift (no pun intended) but I'm not a huge fan of home made ice cream (I like my ice cream frozen very hard) and I'm trying to have a more clutter free minimal kitchen (and house). So I'm not totally thrilled with it. But I'll find some non-kitchen place to keep it because my kids are thrilled with it. :) I'll make them ice cream a few times a year or something.

I love my ice cream maker... For slushies. Nearly everyday in the summer (No a.c. Here) having a COLD drink late afternoon helps everyone. Juice, soda, lemonade.

We seldom make ice cream :-)

Sis and I got pullover mock-turtleneck sweaters from my mom.  Mom's a big fan of Haband, so they are not quite the style we wear, although I think I can make my teal one work with a scarf and such. Sis got a mauve one....the color seemed 80's to her and not in a stylish retro type either.

I got a night at a hotel.  Super sweet intent.  But it was dated for this Sunday, at a casino (I don't gamble) and it is at the Oregon coast (cold in winter). I am on a strict budget right now (got an unexpected $4,000 bill), so just going and attending shows/spa is way out of my budget. It is too cold and rainy to spend the day on the beach.  Can't go shopping at the outlets....because I'm broke. I asked him to cancel it and maybe I will go sometime in the summer instead once this bill is paid off.   I would have to drive 2 hours each way, to just spend the night if I go this weekend.  It was a bummer, because the person was nice to give it to me, but also a let down because the destination wasn't really thought out by the gift giver.

That sounds awesome. :) Thank you, I'm more excited about it now.

Oh gosh, I don't know why this makes me chuckle. It's like it hits every possible bad idea for you: no money to spare, bad weather, bad timing, long drive.

Well, the first thing ds5 said when he got up to see what Santa had left was, "Where's my cat?" Dd got a kitten from Santa last year, and I guess ds thought it was his turn. He had mentioned wanting a cat, but I explained that he needed to be a little older before Santa would give him a pet, and I thought we were all good. Guess not!

He moved on quickly, fortunately. He liked his toys, but it was only a few minutes before he was asking for "my stuff from Nana's" -- a huge box of real, child-sized tools and a board my dad made him with all kinds of nuts and screws and locks and switches to take apart. He's been pretty much glued to it since he got it last night. I'm totally thrilled -- my dad has no sons and only the one grandson so he's loving getting to spoil a boy for a change.

I started a 2 day a week job in September and I was hoping for a Christmas gift from my employer. Nuthin. There are 3 other employees that have been there for years, and I suspect, (won't go into details why) that they received something. It would have meant a lot to get a $10 gift card. I really shouldn't have expected anything; he didn't even offer condolences when my dad died last month.

This is the first Christmas I didn't get any presents. This is completely fine - DH and I don't exchange gifts, and, as adults with our own incomes, tend to buy the things we want/need during the year anyway. Our parents have long since stopped giving us gifts, especially as we now have 5!! kidlets who appreciate Christmas bounty more than their parents.

But...it makes me feel like a real, true adult. And not in a good way.

Are you gf? If so, still an odd gift. That's a lot of flour!! If not, an especially odd gift.

Gf for 14 years. I mix my own flour and am quite good at baking gf. These were boxes of premixed flour. It's not like I'm starting out and don't know how to begin with a preschooler who needs mommy to figure this out fast (I was that person a long time ago).

Yeah odd. Maybe the premixed flour will spring dd into learning how to cook for herself. I haven't been able to get her learning this life skill. I think she will wait until her mommy isn't there to rely on next year.

I got ds7 a razor ripstick which is what he asked for. It is way harder than I thought it would be. He says it is his favorite present but I can't imagine he will ever actually be able to use it 😞

Before you know it he will be ridding right along. It took my son about a week to get a hang of it.

Not really disappointing... but...

I use my Amazon wishlist regularly for everything.  I have a huge pile of books on there for school, dance related things, cooking and sewing things that I want to be able to go back and find later, things like that.   This last summer when DS was looking for a good pocket knife for camping he'd found one that he liked and put it in my wishlist for me to see later and maybe buy.  He ended up going with something else but the knife stayed in my wishlist.

In October I colored my hair red with temporary color.  I loved it, and while researching possibilities for permanent hair color, I found a salon brand that I could get on Amazon, so I saved that to my wishlist to come back to later.

My sister and BIL went shopping on my wishlist... I got a tube of red hair color and a bizarre camping knife for Christmas.

Lesson learned this year:  I need to learn how to segregate my wishlist further so that I have an actual gifty wishlist, and separate ones for my everyday "save for later to look at further" lists.  :P

Great gift, but has a disappointing aspect.

My mom was very generous this year and sent a healthy check for me to get gifts for the kids, so I splurged and got them a Wii U with MarioKart and Splatoon. They absolutely love it, but I wasn't able to get Splatoon loaded on it. The game came with a flyer for Splatoon. You had to peel off a piece of tape to reveal the authorization code to type in and load the game, but when ds peeled the take it revealed the first 4 digits and then ripped the paper. I tried peeling from the opposite direction, but could only get the last 5 digits, and the middle section is unreadable. I couldn't find a solution online. I tried calling Nintendo customer service, but gave up after 30 minutes on the 'All our customer service representatives are assisting other customers. Please continue to hold' loop.

So the gift is great, but it's a bit frustrating that the authorization code wasn't more accessible and I'm now going to have to spend an hour on the phone trying to get it sorted.

Give him a week. Totally not kidding. Rip sticks are huge in our neighborhood for kids that age. It takes awhile to get the hang of it, but all part of the fun.

HUGE disappointment for dd6: (pun intended!)

I had taken her to the dollar store and gave her money to shop for whatever she wanted. I stayed up front and let her have at it:) she has been so incredibly excited, waiting for me to open it. She tried to give me clues every day.

I opened it this morning to find the most ginormous black bra, lol!!! Best present EVER. Hubby and I had tears:)

She was so disappointed that it didn't fit...but hey! Got in a math lesson when she said she should have calculated the 'volume!'

That is hilarious! I wonder what the cashier thought?

This is why I have warned my husband not to shop my Pinterest pages for ideas for me.

Mentioned this in another thread.  In 17 years of being married to dh and owning a lovely James Avery charm bracelet for 25 years, he has purchased exactly one charm for it- until now.  You'd think he would have purchased a charm when we bought our first house or for our first Christmas together or for any other wonderful occasion- nope.  I had a open hysterectomy 10 days ago.  For some very odd reason, dh felt moved to give me this peculiar charm.  Yuck.  I want it out of my house.  This charm made me cry today.  I thought it was a joke initially.  No, it wasn't a joke.  Worst.Christmas.gift.ever.

Oh no. I am so sorry, it does come across as horrible:(

He may have had an awesome, amazingly kind and loving sentiment that he hoped to express...but, yeah.

Hugs:(

:grouphug: This is truly awful.

I wonder how he would even stumble on it?? Is he still alive?

I was so excited about the gifts *I* was giving to the kids, that I only now, after reading this thread, realized that I didn't get anything from them. They usually give me cards that they make, but they forgot this year, and I forgot too. DH didn't think to remind them, I guess.

I went through this for a few years and then finally told DH to take the kids shopping for me.  We always make him a coffee mug with pictures from the past year to take to work, so about $20.  I asked him to spend about the same for me.  I have been given the most ridiculous things but it's just more fun to have something that they put some thought in to open.  Even if they're just a candle and bracelet from the dollar store.

What is scary is that he searched for it.  He was looking for a ribbon type charm- like what they have for breast cancer awareness or something like that.  He thought he was doing something nice.  He is a horrible gift giver and I think he gets it from his Mom. His Mom has sent me some pretty ridiculous things in the past to the point where I don't even open her gifts on Christmas day anymore.

Let's just say it's been a pretty rough day in our house today.

We had a pretty great Christmas even though our budget was a bit tight.  We were able to purchase something meaningful and wanted for each child.  A very generous friend of the family purchased something for our boys that was significantly spendier and "bigger" than anything we purchased.  They were so enthralled with that present (opened last night) they didn't even want to open the presents from us or their stockings this morning.

I put towels on my wish list (not an Amazon wish list, just an emailed one).  NOt only did dh get me towels, but two out of three children got me towels too.  I have too many now.  ALso, I asked for bed sheets but forgot to specify color.  My dd also got me sheets in the same color I already have.  I wanted a different color.

Stick with it! My kids have one and love it. It doesn't take long to learn and once they get the hang of it, it's so much fun.
