MaeFlowers
:willy_nilly: And I don't know if they are maybe on my computer somewhere. I did a restore. No dice. Basically, it deleted everything in my Documents folder. Guess what was in there? All of my homeschool curriculum...gone. Books...gone. Personal documents and records...gone. I'm hoping its all hiding in this stupid box somewhere. If not, it means I have to try and remember what was there plus either re-download it or buy it again. Please don't tell me I should have a backup. I usually keep a copy of everything on the desktop. But, I just did a clean install of windows 10 on it and so, no backup. Oh, and I tried to turn off windows automatic update. You can't. :cursing: PS. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Forget-Me-Not
Do some keyword searches and see what turns up. When we updated we had to dig for some things, but found most of it.

I found them! I am so relieved. I was freaking out. I just don't understand the craziness of Windows 10.

Slache
I'm getting a new computer with windows 10. I don't know anything about it, but I'm glad to hear you like it so much! Thanks for the warning. ;)
texasmama
Windows 10 ruined my life, but then I mostly figured it out and was able to work around the problems. I was fine with whatever I had before (8, I think?) so I had a lot of regrets. I spent a lot of time figuring out the workarounds. I use Chrome, and there were problems with Chrome and Windows 10 which kept causing crashes. I hope Windows 10 doesn't ruin your life.
nd293
I just don't understand the craziness of Windows 10. Every time it asks me if I want to update I hit the decline button while mumbling "NONONONO, please not that". Although that's admittedly my response to any update on anything. iPhone updates always spark some sort of disaster which evolves into an emotional crisis here!
Word Nerd
Glad you found them! External hard drives are relatively inexpensive. Get one and start backing things up from now on, or check into cloud storage options. It doesn't do you any good to have a backup stored on the same machine if your hard drive fails.
Forget-Me-Not
I had a heck of a time getting the software for my Silhouette to re-install. Windows security kept interrupting the download to ask me if I really wanted to download it. I finally had to install a download manager on Firefox and do it that way.
Guest
So far no issues with it here. Dh stayed home yesterday while the kids and I went to my family's side for Christmas Eve. He mentioned this morning that he had used my computer for some work stuff, and that he had "accepted something" to get it to shut down. I figured out that something was the update when I couldn't get on and do my own work today for the 3+ hours it took to install updates after I turned it on. Told him next time he needs to call and ask me before he just goes pushing buttons, lol.
MaeFlowers
I haven't had any issues until this update. I did learn when installing 10 on the desktop that Edge is not very secure. At least that's what McAfee said. I don't use IE or Edge myself, but dh has to for certain work related websites to work. I think I am going to invest in an external hard drive. Even backing things up on the desktop (a different computer) that also has 10 is making me nervous.
Reflections
So glad you found them. So glad it didn't destroy your computer. Windows 10 will have to pry my windows 7 from my cold dead laptop.
Lanny
For a number of years, I've had a free DropBox account. I think they start you off with 2 GB of space, but I have more space, because several people signed up on my recommendation. DropBox has saved my rear, several times. I am very religious about backing up my Data files to my DropBox account. Now, we have a 2 TB External Western Digital USB Hard Disk Drive. I use it to make "Disk Images" or "System Images" of the entire hard drive, in each of our computers, with the free "Clonezilla Live" software. I have successfully restored images I've made, onto hard drives, and it works perfectly. Clonezilla is a Linux program, and it is free to download and use, legally. http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live.php An easier program, for those using Windows is Acronis. A childhood friend uses Acronis on his computers. Acronis is not free. http://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/ I would suggest that you read the "How to" information on the Clonezilla web site and give it a try. We use it on our 6 computers. OT: 5 of our computers have Windows 7 on them. DD has a laptop that has Windows 8.1 on it. My wife had upgraded her older laptop to Windows 10 some months ago, and there were things she liked about it, but eventually she had me wipe the hard disk drive and do a "Clean" installation of Windows 7 on it. We do the "Important" Windows Updates for Security and Stability issues.
