bettyandbob
I'm thinking of getting a DVD program. I will probably let my gym membership lapse. I've been weight training and doing cardio, but the membership was a gift that I'm not going to keep paying) I will swim once or twice a week (this is free, but I don't have time to do it a lot) I could start running again. I own some dumbbells. I was given $100 gift card today, I can probably add a small amount to it. Anything good ya'll are doing.

Insertcreativenamehere
I like the Beachbody programs I've tried. They just came out with a new one - The Master's Hammer and Chisel - that looks challenging. Edited December 18, 2015 by poikar
wonderchica
I like the various Jillian Michaels DVDs. She doesn't yell at you like on the show, and I've gotten good results.

Slache
P90X! It's the most complete program out there. I love it! You need weights, a pull up bar or bands, and a yoga mat. Edited December 19, 2015 by Slache
KungFuPanda
Bellydance! Great core stuff and crazy fun. You'll meet new BFFs. Go to a class with people. You should be able to enroll in a 6-8 week session in a studio with a real live teacher for $100.
EmilyGF
I think you need to find a "personality" fit with a DVD instructor. I like "no-nonsense" instructors without too much prattling. So I like Ballet Body by Leah Sarago (and wow, it is challenging) but didn't really like Suzanne Bowen, even though the basic idea is the same. I like Chalean Johnson (TurboFire and Piyo are ones by her that have clicked with me), though she has more goofy talk than I like. Ballet Beautiful gets great marks on Amazon and I hated it. I personally like workout schedules - I'm a box checker and am more successful without decisions. Look at some sample workouts by the instructors on YouTube if you can to get a sense of personality. ETA: Jillian Michaels was an awful fit for me; I didn't like her voice or banter. But some people find it helpful. umsami
What do you consider your fitness level? What do you like? Do you like to dance? Do you consider yourself to have two-left feet? Do you prefer male or female instructors? CollageVideo almost always steers me in the right direction.
bettyandbob
My fitness level is above average. At the gym I've been doing 40 minutes of cardio, plus weight training 3 days. Additionaly, 3-5 days I do a two mile walk and two days I swim 40-60 minutes. I also like to throw in squats or othe body weight stuff throughout the day. I try to include speed intervals in the cardio and swimming. Previously, I ran regularly. I used to take a studio class at the gym that included cardio and weight training--it was great just at a bad time. At home I have done Hip Hop Abs and liked that. I can't do workouts that depend on a lot of jumping for a combination of reasons. I'm thinking about getting a beachbody program. T25 looks interesting, as does PiYo. There's a Jilllian Micheals program for more than 50%off on Amazon.

It does have a non-jumping modifier to follow, which is nice. Maybe something higher level from Shaun T/Beachbody? Erica in OR
umsami
You might like Cathe Friedrich. You can probably find some of her workouts on YouTube to give them a try. :)
Laurie4b
You might like one of the New Rules for Lifting books. You do need weights of some kind. Their newest book is called Strong. MSNative
I get bored with dvds so I second the you tube suggestion. Do you have a smart phone? There are lots of workout apps you can get for just a few dollars or free.
Carrie12345
Do you like what you were doing? If so, I would invest in equipment to continue/improve at home rather than search for the "right" DVDs. DVDs (and group classes, for that matter) annoy me because I prefer slow-paced strength moves using a lot of focus, and mindless cardio that sticks within my personal target heart rate. So videos tend to move on without me, lol. There are TONS of books (the vast majority are, imo, very good, and some have already been mentioned) for devising a personalized program.
