kayleelew
His knees and legs hurt really bad. Not fun. :( He's 16 and had a huge growth spurt this year. He used to be one of the shorter boys in his grade and now he's pushing 6'2".
gardenmom5
I know there are people who poohpooh the theory - but drinking milk really helped my dd who was prone to leg pain. she was also pretty physically active. on days she was especially active, I'd have her drink beforehand to head them off. I do think it's more than the calcium, but also magnesium. (and d3). It really did seem to help. I had horrible leg cramps when I was growing up.
BrittanyM
I know Plant Therapy has an essential oil blend for growing pains that I just noticed the other day. And I'm sorry if you didn't want suggestions, I remember when I used to get them and they were so uncomfortable!! Hope your son feels better soon! Tap
Do you have any muscle rub? That seems to help sometimes. Also, you can try to give him a pain med like Tylenol or Motrin to help get him through the night. Hope he feels better and you get some rest. :grouphug: Middle of the night pain, gets you a homemade milkshake at my house, so maybe you can try that LOL It is often chocolate/banana or coconut/banana. I figure the protein, potassium, calcium and chocolate are all good for the body....so it is like a dose of medicine, wrapped up in love and goodness! IfIOnly
My kids get them. We do ibuprofen for short term relief, but what prevents them is cal/mag supplementation. We're dairy free, and if I slack on supplements, sure enough the kids will starting getting "growing" pains again.
Guest2
Our doctor recommended heat. We used on old P.T. Trick of filling long cotton tube socks with dried beans and heating( not long..burnt beans smell horrible..and you don't want it too hot for the skin) in the microwave for some seconds. Shake it a little so there to minimize hot spots. It keeps its warmth for some time...that seemed to help my kids a lot.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I definitely am open to suggestions, thank you! I didn't know they had essential oils specifically for growing pains. I'll have to look for that. I like the milkshake idea, he would probably love that! I gave him a big glass of milk last night and he was finally able to get to sleep. He was sore this morning but feeling better. Thank you everyone! :)
TranquilMind
I'm sorry. One of mine went through this at about 13-14. Not since. Hope he feels better soon.
Cinder
When I was a kid my mom would have me sit on the side of the tub and run very warm water over my legs. The heat is what helped. For my own dc I used BenGay and tylenol. That seemed to work for them. Maybe a heating pad or hot water bottle would help too?
Ali in OR
I think we're having related issues, but not quite the same. Dd has been having foot pain related to growing, overuse, high arches, etc. Her calves have been extremely tight--she's working with a PT who does some massage and she is working with dd to do more stretching. I've been reading that bones grow before muscles/tendons/ligaments, and I think this is what is happening to dd. So if he's not already stretching, you might try to have him try it. For dd, the calves are most important. Dd has said she has less pain when she stretches.
zoobie
Natural Calm and an Epsom salt bath? If he'll sit and soak? My 10 yr old DS still will, but we haven't gotten to 16. :)
