Laurie4b
I've never encountered this before, so I wondered if anyone in the Hive knows whether there is a product that would help. I kind of doubt it because it could have gone really deeply into the futon.
happypamama
Try Nature's Miracle Urine Destroyer. I have an old cat who will pee on things, and this stuff makes the smell disappear. Put it in a spray bottle at full strength and really saturate the spot, maybe even dabbing it into the mattress.

Melissa in Australia
it all boils down to DO YOU WANT TO SLEEP ON DOG PEE EVEN IF THE SMELL IS MASKED?
Pawz4me
Ummm . . . . yeah. I'm a dog (and cat) lover. But if I had a soiled mattress I'd throw it out and buy a new one! If you use an enzyme based stain/odor remover like Nature's Miracle (which certainly will probably work to remove the odor and stain) be aware that you want to soak it well and allow it to dry as slowly as possible. All those lovely enzymes need time to do their work, and so it needs to dry slowly. No fans or anything like that to speed the process. You may need to repeat two or three times. TammyS
Before throwing it out, I'd try dragging it outside and putting on a table and pouring soapy water by the bucketful through the mattress. It will take a lot, because you want to push all of the dog pee out. Then use the hose to rinse the soap out. Then walk on it to squeeze out as much water as possible. Then use a shop vac to suck out as much water as possible. Then leave it outside on the table to dry. Once it's dried out it should be clean (really clean, not just odor masked). You may need to move it to a sheltered spot to dry if it's rainy. If you have dry heat in the house, it might dry better inside (but if you don't, you probably don't want to add a lot of moisture to your house).
Pink and Green Mom
We had our dog pee on our $$$$ living room sofa during a thunderstorm. It was soaked. We didn't touch it but called Stanley Steamer to clean it. The smell is about 98 percent gone. Sigh. basketcase
Definitely a product with enzymes. If it works right (and it will take a lot of the product), the enzymes feed on any organics, so the urine will not just be masked but gone. Good luck!
Laurie4b
Thanks everyone. I thought it was a goner, but I will try one of the enzyme products. We will probably be replacing it soon but right before Christmas, we really prefer not to both for time and $$. It had a cover on it and came with another cover sewn on, so the cover absorbed quite a lot.

I just know my bathtub would be cleaner than an outdoor table. (But I suppose I could remedy that by washing the table first!) :)
