Bonkers247
My kids are very interested in science and we all need a break from TOG next year. I'm planning to do something I'm calling the History of Science. Everything we do will be focused on this idea. Science, history, writing, and literature will all go together. I'm having no problem with the history or science resources but I'm getting a little stuck on writing and literature. I'll have 5th, 7th and 9th graders next year. Do you have any ideas for literature they could read? Any other resources that could help me with the planning? Thanks in advance!
Clear Creek
Build Your Library's 8th grade year is the History of Science. It is a full curriculum with literature, writing, etc. It is a PDF download, so you can just use the parts that you would like. It also includes some history of math, which is fun. My oldest is using it this year and loving it...we are both disappointed that the author doesn't have anything for high school.
Chrysalis Academy
We're doing History of Science this year in 8th. I'm linking a couple of planning threads where I asked for advice about what to include. I got great suggestions and there were some interesting discussions. The 2nd thread is more focused on literature: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/553205-8th-grade-planning/ http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/552219-8th-grade-book-list-history-of-science-science-fiction/

We were planning on using Joy Hakim's series as part of the curriculum so this looks great. It's also not as expensive as I feared when I clicked on the link. Totally doable. ....
I also plan to go through the Hakim series with my older two kids next fall. I *think* Bookshark is coming out with a History of Science course for 8th grade. If you google Bookshark+History of Science, there's several things on different websites about it (including the sonlight forums). One thread said the History of Science course will be available in January on their website.
