AlmiraGulch
Is anyone familiar with this program? Does anyone has a child who has participated? Link, for anyone who is interested. My7th grade daughter received an invitation to participate through her school based on standardized test scores, but there is also a section that explains how homeschoolers can participate. I'm just interested to know what we can expect as far as outreach after she tests. I like that she'll have the opportunity to stretch herself at this stage of her education. She'll be taking the ACT in February. Her choice. Thoughts?
Dmmetler
Expect invitations to take online or summer on-campus classes (there are a few free ones, but most are pretty pricey) and possibly, if she does well, a chance to go to an awards ceremony. Really, really high scores can make a child eligible for the Davidson Young Scholars program, which also offers summer and online classes,as well as free workshops for kids and parents and parent support. Another useful thing to know-once you have scores for the ACT, you can use them to apply to the other talent search programs as well (CTY, NUMATS, etc) and can see which have programs that work for you better. In our case, TIPS is our regional search, but NUMATS is actually easier to get to for physical classes because Chicago is a common hub for both rail and air.
abcmommy
I did it in 1989. We moved back to Va after that. I got to go to UVa to summer programs each year in junior high. It was fun. I met boys. It was enrichment not any sort of drill academics. My parents then made me take the SAT each year so they could watch my scores go up. That was not so fun. I maxed out verbal and never got my maths real high. Ah well. I went to William and Mary on early decision. I dropped out and got pg at 21. HTH!

This is exactly the information I was looking for. Thank you! I did it in 1989. We moved back to Va after that. I got to go to UVa to summer programs each year in junior high. It was fun. I'm not sure why the last two sentences about your early acceptance and drop-out are cracking me up right now, but they completely are! Not in a bad way....I just think it's funny the way you through that in there.
Stacia
I had both my dc do it as homeschoolers (esp as I knew the plan for our family was for them to then enter a b&m high school in 9th grade). It's a bit of nice academic recognition, helped the enrolling in high school process go smoothly (additional 'official' stuff to show, along w/ ACT scores from them taking them early), etc.... We never actually participated in the summer programs (they're pricey, plus we tended to travel a lot during the summers anyway), but they had some nice offerings. They also have some nice online classes & materials you can order for study at home. My nephew was in the same program coming from the public school side (I think it's called Target) & he did go to the summer camps for 3 or 4 years (maybe 5th or 6th grades through 8th grades). He loved, loved, loved them, had some great experiences & classes, & made some great friends there. He did the programs at Vanderbilt in the summer &, now as a college student, guess where he goes? Vanderbilt. I'd recommend the TIP program.

leeannpal
My sister took the ACT in 7th grade 20 years ago and was invited to Duke University for special recognition because she did so well. Duke TIP was the start of her getting scholarship offers and eventually a full ride scholarship to a private university. She went on the medical school and is a pathologist today. Needless to say, I was hoping my 7th grade daughter would get an invitation from her standardized test scores, and she did :). She will take the ACT in February too. Best of luck to both of our daughters!
Pawz4me
Oldest DS was in it, but it's been a few years. I'm not sure how much (if anything) has changed. He did a few of the one day Academic Adventure sessions, but he had no interest in the summer school programs.
Arcadia
My boys were both enrolled in Duke TIP since they were 4th graders. However Duke would not accept my 6th grader's October's ACT scores until he is officially in 7th grade  So far we have tried one of their online program and didn't like it enough to try another. My boys prefer the CTY JHU online ones. CTY JHU and CTD NUMATS takes his scores. You can add CTY JHU's code which is 5334 for the three free score report from ACT. For CTD NUMATS, I have to send a copy of his score report.
Joyofsixreboot
DS received lots of invitations to summer things but due to price and his AS and complete disinterest in having to associate with anyone he never participated.
