Several years ago, I started a like titled thread when I encountered this item ~ obsessive chef cutting board (no insult intended to those who might suffer from OCD).

I did find this cute t-shirt recently: Chicken Crossing Shirts

It's not nearly as out of the ordinary as the  Small Vagina Shaped Case  I found two years ago.

Have you encountered any curious gift items lately?

Kareni

A grocery store in town has a build your own Millennium Flacon gingerbread house. ... Or what that be gingerbread ship?

That's funny! I saw a store selling a gingerbread hoosegow which I thought was really unusual, but on closer inspection I realized I had misread the box and it was just a regular gingerbread house kit, written in fancy script.

Too bad homeschooling is over. I love the "Little Patient." It would make a great aid for anatomy lesson. Thanks for  reminding me of ThinkGeek. Just ordered something for dh's birthday.

Also, I have the Mr. Tea mug in this listing in pink (bought from this Etsy store) but I want the Lionel Richie "Hello is it tea you're looking for?" mug that is in this listing as well. They often sell it alone on here in a few different colours but they must be selling out fast for Christmas. They also have it in a teapot version that I am in love with.

I found these and purchased one for everyone in the family to put in our christmas stockings.  Practice handcuffs to learn to pick locks.

I'm going to have to think about that for my 15 yo daughter. She'd love it! :)

Other than standard itunes and stuff from Hot Topic, she's getting a Hello Crowley tshirt from TeeFury (if they ever ship it, that is)

I'd love to get my husband the Cthulhu cardigan from Middle of Beyond, but it's way out of my price range (they also have some fun Krampus and other collections)

I've been enjoying all of your comments.  Thanks for joining in.

while I was looking for something for my husband I came across framed or posters of patents for various products.

I could imagine that those could make great gifts for the right person.  I recently saw some pages of an old Websters Dictionary affixed to a wood plaque and then with an illustration on top.  (So, for example, a picture of a bee on a page that might have the word honey.)

That is nifty. It's also strangely apropos as I recently read The Lock Artist: A Novel by Steve Hamilton about a young man who can pick locks and crack safes.  It was a page turning read.

Target has winter themed dispensers that "poop" candy in their stocking stuffer section. Just, no.

No here, too!

Well for some reason in my suggested items because of what I've search amazon thought I'd be interested in a willy warmer. Not really sure which child's toy or education book made that one pop up as a suggestions but dh and I got a nice laugh

That one would make me laugh, too.

Kareni

Oh ThinkGeek!  We have a close relative in high places over there, so we are swimming in unique gifts.  For Christmas, she sent us a Death Star waffle maker ("come to the dark side; we have waffles"), along with various geeky cutting boards, tribbles, an R2D2 cooler, a Darth Vader purse, and plates painted like planets.

Here is a link to the waffle http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/huik/?pfm=Search&t=star%20wars%20death%20star%20waffle%20maker

Kareni, you didn't know Cheerwine? I guess it's a local drink to the South?

My sister used to love it (though I don't know that she drinks it now). I see it in the old glass bottle form at a local hot dog place near where my sister lives. (They have lots of old style sodas in bottles there & it's just kind of fun.)

And don't forget giant microbes! http://www.giantmicrobes.com/

DD has pretty much all the giant microbes and iLoveGuts organs on her wish list. I'm seriously tempted to get her a stuffed testicle and sperm cell to unwrap at the family Christmas party, just to watch her try to explain it... (She has both on her wishlist, along with the uterus-but turns red at the slightest mention of TeA)...

I got DD a set of parasites :)

How often can one say that she gave her child parasites ... intentionally!?

I'd love to be at your Christmas party if you go that route.

I thought of your daughter when I saw a link recently to some snakes that had been dressed up; however, I wasn't sure if she'd be amused or offended on their behalf.  What is your thought?

Oh - you're talking about nice unique gifts!

We were given out-of-date cereal once.

And another time we were given a plaster fountain/pond thing that was truly hideous.  I'm pretty sure it came from Goodwill and it went back to Goodwill.

This was from different people - who did not have financial problems.

Yes, we've received a few of those types of gifts over time.  One does wonder sometime at people's choices.

I'm reminded (for no apparent reason) of when I worked summers at a large upscale department store that had a generous return policy.  I can't tell you the number of sets of "No, we never used it" china we took back that had dried egg on them.  Perhaps those people were friends of your gift givers.

Kareni

She generally likes the "snakes in hats" as long as the hats aren't hurting the snakes (a lot of the people who do this use a dab of peanut butter, which doesn't hurt the snake) and, of course, that the snakes are alive (there's one photo of a mounted albino cobra in a straw party hat, which bugs her, both because it's a dead snake in midst alive ones, and because no one should try to dress up a venomous snake). In general, anything that humanizes snakes she sees is a good thing-which is why she draws cartoons about snakes who basically act like human pre-teens.

That looks like fun!  (I'll confess though that I hadn't known of Cheerwine.  See, you're now responsible for my having learned something new today!)

Kareni

If you ever come across it, taste with caution. My son describes it as "Cherry Coke on steroids." I think it tastes like carbonated cough syrup! I think it might be of those things that you either love or hate, but it's definitely part of the culture in our area.

A Mewgaroo hoodie!

If it wasn't so expensive, I'd probably order one for my dd.

Oh, my! DS would love that - he's always threatening to take one of the cats back to school with him! When they were kittens, they would ride around in the pocket of my bathrobe, so they might go for this. But, at that price, we'll have to pass!

Oh man. I found my sister (an Elvis junkie) the ugliest Elvis lamp yesterday at TJMaxx.

I took a photo of it & texted my dd to get her opinion. Her response? "That's really ugly. I think she would love it." :thumbup1:

Definite buy. I'll be wrapping it tonight.

Btw, for anyone who is enamored with the lamp, they had a variety of them at TJMaxx -- Elvis, Superman, Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper, Pokemon, etc... (They were displayed in the men's section on tables with holiday gifts for guys.)

I think Florida is its own thing entirely.

  It most certainly is.

I usually get a tee shirt for ds for his stocking (I roll it up). If I hadn't already bought the Boston* one he wants I'd consider some of the ones linked here. He'd love the can't get out of bed one.

*The group, not the city. He likes music from the 1970's and 80's.
