JRmommy
Title says it all! We are having major pencil sharpening woes at our home. We have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Staedtler-Double-hole-Tub-Pencil-Sharpener/dp/B001E67Z16/ref=zg_bs_1069806_10
wintermom
I've discovered that another Staedtler pencil sharpener (oval in shape) works better over longer time. I found them at WalMart. http://www.amazon.com/Staedtler-2-Hole-Pencil-Sharpener-assorted/dp/B00006IEE2/ref=sr_1_3?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1449159298&sr=1-3&keywords=staedtler+pencil+sharpener
4Kiddos
I had all kinds of pencil sharpener woes until I got this one last year. It still works like a dream (and comes in different colors): http://www.amazon.com/Angel-5-Pencil-Sharpener-Office-School/dp/B00MVHU1S6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1449160221&sr=8-3&keywords=carl+angel+pencil+sharpener
Reefgazer
Go to eBay and buy a used Panasonic electric pencil sharpener. They last forever, they don't get dulled, and we've been thrilled with our used one we got on eBay three years ago.

It's been through 3 years and 5 kids, and still works great!

Btervet
We have a manual one and love it. I will never go back to an electric sharpener. It works so much better, and both the kids and I get tons of satisfaction using it. We got this one from Staples: http://www.staples.com/X-Acto-Bulldog-Manual-Vacuum-Mount-Pencil-Sharpener-Smoke-Gray/product_432675 It uses a pressure fit to sit on any tabletop so we just pull it out when needed, it doesn't require a permanent mount. amsunshine
Ours is a Dahle from Dick Blick. We have used it for a number of years for regular No. 2 pencils and art pencils. It has never failed us. We love it.
...................
The one from Classroom Friendly Supplies is THE one and only one you will ever need again...about every three years you can get a replacement blade
dirty ethel rackham
We've had a Panasonic electric for years. I bought a crank one from an online school supplies company and was sorely disappointed. It chewed our pencils. For colored pencils, though, we only use a metal one we bought from the art supply store.
krsmom
This is the best electric pencil sharpener I have ever owned. http://www.amazon.com/School-Smart-Electric-Heavy-Duty-Sharpener/dp/B003U6VS3O/ref=sr_1_21?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1449211326&sr=1-21&keywords=pencil+sharpener

I think I'll drop them in their stockings. We are always losing pencil sharpeners.
blondchen
Another vote for the one from Classroom Friendly Supplies. Sharpens perfectly every time and even my just-turned-4yo uses it easily.

dollhouse
I bought this X-Acto one in 2011: http://www.amazon.com/X-ACTO-Teacher-Electric-Sharpener-SmartStop/dp/B001PMG98O/ref=pd_sim_229_7?ie=UTF8&dpID=41kTk9qDeJL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1T1GR9ZNPADX3WT3MH6Q About a month ago it broke. We, too, have colored pencils and a toddler, etc., so I thought it was just shot. Went to buy a new one and saw it actually had a 10-year warranty, so I emailed their customer service and heard back WITHIN THE HOUR. All I had to do was send a copy of my Amazon receipt (the electronic one Amazon stores in your account), and they sent me a replacement. No shipping cost, no mailing my old one back, no hassle. My replacement arrived in about a week. I would absolutely recommend it, and especially X-Acto for their superior customer service!
