Does anyone have any ideas how to soften tulle..

Try hanging it in the bathroom and run a hot steamy shower for 15 - 20 minutes.

 

ETA: We have done this to get wrinkles out of ballet dresses, it works beautifully!

I think that tulle is actually a type of plastic. It's texture is determined by what other fibers are woven in with it and the thickness of the weave. Tulle comes in different weights.

 

I don't think you can soften it using a fabric softener - maybe a steamer would work.

Hmmmm, can you wash it in fabric softener, or toss it in the dryer with a fabric softener sheet?

Is this a tutu? If so, when we wanted it to lay down, as for longer skirts, we used a combination of tulle and soft netting for the layers. The tulle added lift but the netting helped the tulle not stick straight out. For tutus we use more tulle and less netting because tutus are supposed to stick out.

 

 

 

Sniff, sniff, I am already missing all that tulle and netting and pink stuff now that my days as a ballet mom are over.

Hmmm. If you want it to lay better, is there something else you can use? Tulle is pretty sproingy by nature. I wish I could remember the name of what i'm thinking of, but I just can't. I have some stuff that's much softer and more flowy, but it works nicely for skirts. The girls have a dress-up dress with a skirt made of the stuff, I just cannot think of the name to save my life. If I remember I will come back and tell you what it is.
