workingmom
I am in the process of setting up our deskwork area for this summer and noticed that my ds's KG classroom has a work wall and various lists (like days of the week, month names, etc) around the classroom to help them when they have journal writing time. I know the teacher askes the students to look around the room for help spelling words or getting ideas of what to write about and at this stage doesn't correct spelling. He already knows how to read and spell sight words upto second grade and usually when we do writing at home I ask him to sound it out and help him with the correct spelling. I know one of my goals next year hsing, is to have him be a better writer. So far we're doing spelling power, but I was wondering if I ask him to do independent writing, should I keep the room with either a word wall at second grade level or have those posters of trigger words up? We are fortunate that I can devote an entire extra room for this in addition to his bedroom and finished basement (which now is the play room). Any advice on the matter? I don't want him to feel stuck or frustrated about writing, and if these simple promts usually help, then why not have them up.
