Hilltopmom
First Tech Challenge teams- Now that your teams have had some time to work on this year's challenge- how's it going? Does it seem super hard to your kids compared to the last few years? Don't give away your robot plans, but just curious how everyone is doing so far... Our team is struggling with design issues right now & having a tough time getting up the ramp bars, especially with balls on board. The new operating system doesn't seem too hard to use & they're confident about the coding, but the challenge is, well, a challenge this year, IMO:)
mamato4
Not in FTC this year but DS was on a team throughout his high school years and every year has added challenges. Last year, they had to totally rebuild their robot mid season due to design issues. I don't even know what the challenge is this year but I'd just like to encourage your team to keep at it. Many times, it's the learning that counts in the end.
TCB
We've had some issues with one of the parts of the new technology and so that has slowed us down a bit as we haven't been able to test things. We finally got a working replacement from the company this week and have been able to start testing things out. I think it is quite a difficult challenge this year. Getting up that ramp and over the bars is quite tricky, I think. Interestingly, to the best of my knowledge, none of the teams doing the 'Robot in 3 Days' challenge at the start of the season managed to get their robot up the ramp. Our first competition is in the middle of December, so we are trying to get things finalized and working well. We've still got some things to iron out. It really is a great learning experience for the kids though!
Hilltopmom
Oh yeah, they'll definately hang in there! My son pointed out that none of the "3 day" groups got it either. We have a late competition, not till early Feb this year, so they have time, but I think they're a bit freaked out as last year their robot was built pretty early & worked well. I can't wait to see what all the other teams come up with! Last year we had a brand new baby & I almost didn't go to the competition, but I'm so glad I did, it was very cool. (It was our first FTC year, but had done FLL before) good luck everyone!!!
j3mom
It is a first season for my son, and he is part of a rookie team. It seems quite challenging, but then again we have nothing to compare it to. Yes, they are struggling as well. Despite that, I have to say, that I am impressed how much learning DS picked up from FTC since September. It is really great.
Rebel Yell
BabyBaby is in her 3rd year on an FTC team, and she visited demos and competitions for 2 years before that to cheer her friends (now graduated teammates) on. This year's challenge seems much much more difficult. Plus 5 team members are new, and their programmer graduated last year. But the team has 3 new programmers, and it seems like they're making good progress in all areas. Their local competition isn't until 1-16-16, so they should be in good shape by then.
