Alessandra
DragonBox Numbers is fairly new, and I have not been able to find any reviews. The previews for the app are a bit much for me. It seems noisy and frantic. But I like the other DB apps. Any opinions?
EmseB
My son (6yo) loves it. It is a bit noisy, and some people are concerned that the nooms are not the same color as c-rods, but we haven't found it to be a problem.
Syllieann
My kids love it. I was worried about the colors, but it's been a non-issue for my Dd, who uses rods daily.
knittingout
I plan on getting it to help for the long thanksgiving trip, I am glad to hear that it is liked
arliemaria
Hadn't heard of this app. Might get this for the trip to Indy next weekend.
amiesmom
It's been glitchy on my Kindle Fire, but I have a 1st generation Fire, so it could be the device more than the app. Otherwise, I like it, my kids like it, but I'm also not sure it's teaching number sense as much as using actual c-rods would.
PeterPan
My ds has been playing it avidly the last couple days. I know he completed all the ladder activities, and I think he may have completed 1/2-2/3 of the picture puzzles, if that tells you anything, lol. Some of the activities, particularly in the ladder games, are INCREDIBLY well-conceived. My ds has SLD math (dyscalculia) and has struggled even with c-rods. I decided that flexibility and generalization in the math were as worthy and that we would just overlook the colors issue. I think that's pretty much how it's working out too, because really working with the Nooms so quickly is not going to change his *visualization* of the math. For him, because he has a math disability (and ostensibly a math gift), visualizing the math, physically breaking it into parts, is very important. So he's able to explore *concepts* with the Nooms, but for actually visualizing it and solving his day to day questions (like today, what would 86+28 be), he's going back to the c-rods. Ds struggles to count other than by twos, and the ladder games use some unique strategies, with well-placed bombs, to FORCE the student to think beyond counting by ones. That's FABULOUS. Frankly, I wish they had done more. They could actually have a whole additional app exploring this. They could also use that additional app to explore the place value concepts they introduce in the coins. I love what I see happening with the coins but, again, the trades and payments are done SO quickly that my student doesn't entirely get what's going on. But the thought process is there, and for non-SLD students it might even be enough to spur quite a bit of learning. The pictures are a little weird. They have these stars and exploding spots that send more things out. I don't know. I just don't let him turn it up real high. I napped through it, lol. It's really not that big a deal. It's sort of fast-paced for me, but he seemed to like it. So my take is I don't mind it, it's definitely a worthwhile app, just could wish for an expansion on the ladder games because they're SO innovative and powerful. You could do multiplication with them, all sorts of things. Is that covered in another Dragonbox app? I haven't used them yet. We're happy enough with this one, I figure I'll buy him the others in a couple days when he has completed it.
BooksandBoys
I looked for this yesterday and didn't see it in my App Store. Has this been released for iPad yet? I remain disappointed that the colors don't match the c-rods, but I'm sure my kids will love it anyway.

My dd has real difficulties in math too and also learns by visualizing. I think she would find the app too distracting though. I already deleted a bunch of math apps that featured explosions, popping balloons and so on, lol. What was really helpful in your post was explains what was NOT in the app. I think it would be too basic for my dd. So you saved me some money, thx! I have not done all the DragonBox apps, but the ones that I have done are about logic, balancing two sides of an equation, than about number sense. Try searching "dragonbox numbers" or "dragonbox nooms." Don't put a space between "dragon" and "box."
