Ethel Mertz
3 paydays :/ Oh, yikes! And one of those paydays is too close to Christmas to shop online. Thanks for that reminder. I'll have to do the online shopping over two paydays and save the 3rd for local things. That is, if I can get the budget to cooperate. Time to look over home-made ideas! Mimm
I've made a huge dent in my shopping. Maybe about half done. Going to try to be done by the end of November so I can focus just on celebrating for December. :) A little hard because my baby is turning two this weekend (sniffle). I am SO in the mood for Christmas this year though!
Liz CA
Simple is the word: Adult ds = gift card and Dad likes to shop for some fun stuff - good for him Dh = clothes shopping, some fun little things Dog = Peanut butter biscuit snacks I do always enjoy the Christmas threads though, so bring it on, people! hjffkj
Ugh! This is the first year that I'm simply not excited about Christmas. I hope that changes but with health issues with my dd and myself and the strain on my marriage those are causing I simply don't think I'll care about Christmas this year. Add to that, that we can't actually afford gifts for the kids and its a formula for just wanting it to be January already.

monstermama
I'm having a baby between now and Christmas, so I'm highly motivated to get all the shopping done before December for once. While I've mostly figured things out for my side of the family, DH is still being wishy washy over what he wants to get his family members. Plus, we haven't figured out the actual Christmas budget, so I'm hesitant to buy anything until we've reviewed everything. :glare: I saw a pretty good deal on American Girl stuff at Costco today, and I'm hoping it won't sell out before we decide!

UCF612
Yay!! I'm super excited about Christmas this year. We just moved into a new house and I'm excited to decorate it. We finally have a fireplace and a big picture window up front for the tree! Plus my youngest is getting a gift that's he's literally been asking for the past 3 years. I can't wait until he opens it. This is my kid who paraded around triumphantly upon opening underwear from his grandparents so I can't WAIT to see him react to this toy he's talked about non-stop for 3 years. I plan to knock out most of my shopping on Black Friday when I go out with my mom and sister. I don't care to go for crazy deals or anything (no camping out for 3 days or anything), we just go for fun and hope we find a majority of what we need/want.

mom2scouts
Christmas music in 2.5 weeks! I love Christmas music! Our local, popular Christian radio station decided they were going to play Christmas music starting at the beginning of November because "we should always be celebrating the season". Their Facebook page is filled with people telling them they have decided to listen to a different station until after Thanksgiving. You'd think a Christian radio station would want to focus on the holiday that celebrates being thankful. I have a "one holiday at a time rule", so I won't listen to them for a few more weeks either.

Annie G
I would like the holiday season more if Thanksgiving was moved to like the second week of November. It's just too close to Christmas for me. I want to celebrate Thanksgiving and then move on to Christmas without feeling rushed. And that's my whole problem- I can't get motivated to do any Christmas shopping until Thanksgiving is over, and by then I'm behind. Every bit of my family and dh's family lives at least 850 miles away, including our grandchildren....so I'm always shopping and shipping at the last minute. (I realize that I'd probably still be way behind everyone else simply because I don't enjoy shopping and I'm not particularly good at choosing gifts. But let me dream that an earlier Thanksgiving would help)
momacacia
I gotcha OP. I hate it. I love everything about Christmas except the gifts. If we could just do it without the gifting it's be great. Just sent via Amazon gift for in-law exchange, and had Amazon wrap it. Lol. Have 4 cousins to cover still but will do those via Amazon, too. I don't like shopping anyway and if I got out to shop it's be for me--clothes. ;)

Guest
Is it just me or is the shopping component noticeably ickier this year to you young whippersnappers too? ds' grandfather has Amazon prime and tells us to put $x on a wishlist but honestly, all I can find that isn't gross is art supplies. I can't even find a candy cane that isn't an ad for a teevee show or a product I don't want even if i could afford it which I can't. Etsy doesn't seem to have anything for 7yos except T shirts. This isn't fun AT ALL. I'd much rather be singing schlocky songs and baking lopsided cookies. Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1979. RioSamba
I adore Christmas, but I kind of want to crawl under a rock. I'm usually close to finished with shopping now, so that I can relax and enjoy looking for a few last minute things. This year? I've ordered ONE GIFT. I host all the holidays, and by now I have detailed menu plans, shopping plans, I've inventoried chime candles, etc. This year, nothing. My 2015 holiday excel sheets are empty, reproachful boxes. It's partly the baby, who is now walking and is an agent of chaos. He is hilarious, the best hugger, and a huge blessing, though! The other part has no upside. My dear grandparents are now home bound, and one is extremely frail. They are the guests that make our occasions a total joy, the ones that appreciate everything. I could serve canned beans, and they would exclaim that the beans were magnificent, the best beans they'd ever had! They just pour out joy and love. And they sparkle like no one else. Things will be different this year, and it hurts. I'm sad and don't want to adapt! I know I need to focus on the essential- celebrating the gift of Jesus!
SKL
Well, on the positive side, I have an idea what I'm getting some of the people. That's good, right? I plan to order my kids some beanbag chairs to match their bedrooms. Nuts to everyone else. Peterson's nuts, that is. And gift cards. I do have some other kids to buy from, so I'll go on Amazon and surf for ideas. These are not kids I know well. I think I'll go look at beanbag chairs on Amazon right now.... hjffkj
OK my attitude about Christmas has completely changed. Dh and I discussed and we're doing one big gift for each kid minus the baby, since they get so much from relatives.I found an awesome wooden dollhouse for $18 yesterday for dd5, just what she wanted! I also found a wooden barn for ds2 which also cost $18. That just leaves my 7 year old to shop for.

plansrme
Just the title of this thread was enough to make me get in gear. While my son was doing math today, I ordered 7 presents and made inquiries (Etsy) on three more (same gift/3 teen girls). Taking a tip from my grandmother who always bought the same thing for everyone in the same generation, I ordered three monogrammed casserole carriers in the colors of their favorite college team and three wreaths with a ribbon in the color of their favorite team (different team as the crowd getting casserole carriers). Assuming the etsy seller responds, I will order three monogrammed sweatshirts and a couple of other things. This mostly knocks out extended family so that I can focus on immediate family. Feeling pretty good about my progress today!
SporkUK
I still have a birthday to get through at the end of this month. Thinking it is that close to the end of the year is mind boggling for me - feels like I was just planning for summer birthdays. I do have a some books and a few gifts (mostly things that arrived late for birthdays) squirreled away, but need to get cracking soon. I haven't even got my lists yet... hjffkj
Yeah for bargains.
