rieshy
Anyone on this board from Reno? I'm trying to find an inexpensive place for my husband and I to stay for about a week (so we need a kitchen) in April near Reno. I'll be needing to drive into an area in South Reno- Longley Lane- each day but convenient for us to get to good day hiking trails each day as well. Anyone have ideas? Dmmetler
We rented a house via HomeAway last summer that was fairly close to UNR and backed up to the big Park (hiking trails right out the back door). Pyramid Lake on the Paiute reservation is beautiful and was about an hour away, and several of the big state parks for hiking on the CA side were about that far as well. If you check HomeAway, you can check by regions. Since our reason for being out there was at UNR, we looked at that part of town, but honestly, Reno isn't that big. One of the local residents told me that for the most part, you don't have more than a 30 minute drive time from one end to the other, and we found that to be generally true. bodiesmom
We just moved from Reno this last summer. 😄 I would suggest looking in south Reno closer to the Mount Rose highway for a place to stay. This would put you that much closer to the tree line where there are incredible trails all around. If you take this particular highway all the up and over the mountain, you will hit the northern shore of Lake Tahoe. Even if you don't have the time to make it to the lake (about 45-1 hour depending on where you are) there are numerous areas to hike along the way. Like pp said, Reno isn't that big and is pretty easy to get from point a to point b via the freeway in a fairly short amount of time. milovany
I might go to Reno next June and looked at Airbnb.com. Saw some great options there.
