Sebastian (a lady)
Is there a modern series like American Heritage Junior Library or Horizon Caravel books. I like that these are on a topic (Vikings), event (Gettysburg), or person (Nelson). They are about 150 pages of good text (not DK style snippets but paragraphs and a narrative flow ). Good illustrations. But as much as I like them, they are from the 1960s and some books miss more recent archealogical finds.
swimmermom3
Sigh. It's not just the format of the books you mention, it's that they were written predominantly by excellent writers. Ds loved those books even the ones we owned second-hand were already well-loved.
