3girls4me
Hi ladies I am trying to select a spelling program for a 6th grader. I want a program with vocabulary and roots included. I have heard Rod and Staff has a great program and includes both of these areas in addition to spelling. I've also just realized that Abeka does as well. (And also includes poetry) Can anyone compare the two of these? Thanks!
Ellie
The activities in Spelling by Sound and Structure are very challenging, much more so than ABeka's. By the end of each lesson, the children have analyzed each word for any rules, syllables, prefixes and suffixes, and etymologies; and they have written each word multiple times in meaningful ways (as opposed to writing each word three times for no reason). And they've used their dictionaries extensively. Poetry is covered in R&S's English series. :-)
SilverMoon
What Ellie said. Abeka has more busywork. R&S does nothing for the sake of filling up a page; every exercise has a purpose.
