I think if you make them acquaintances, you don't see their feed. Let me make sure that's what I did. There are quite a few I made that way.

Really?! I've been so aggravated for so long now with seeing everything my friends "like." I have unfollowed many of them just because they "like" so much stuff!

 

You can go to their main profile and click on "Following", from there you can choose to "Unfollow". They are still your friends, but you don't see their activity. 

 

But she said she wants to see what they post, just not what they "like" or comment on. I am going to try doing the acquaintance thing to a couple and see what happens.

I don't know if making them acquaintances will do what you want. I click on the arrow at the top of the post and choose Hide All from whoever the original poster was.

Yeah, I'm thinking that is just a category, for when you share things. Many of my facebook friends have thousands of "friends" and I have been doing this (hiding all from whoever) constantly and still seeing way too much junk.
