Bluegoat
I am looking for ideas for a fundraiser activity for a kid' choir. We would ideally like to do this before Christmas, in November, something fairly easy to put together, but we are also wanting it to be a bit of a group cohesion event, for kids and parents. My big challenge is that the kids and parents are fairly busy. I am willing in that vein to do a lot of the organizing, but I need it to be somewhat simple. The kids range from about 5 to 12. Wilma
My most favorite ever fundraiser is a Family Movie Night. Watching the movie is free (copyright and whatnot) and you sell concessions that have been donated. Invite everyone under the sun.
Sarah CB
What about busking? Ds has made tons of money busking outside the local grocery store. It's actually obscene to watch how much money he rakes in. I bet if the choir kids made a poster outlining what they were fundraising for and set it up in front of them with a bucket and just sang somewhere they'd make more money than any bake sale or other more traditional fundraising event.
happi duck
Are you hoping that most of the funds come from people *not* connected to the group? Or are the families in a position to donate?
Bluegoat
Thanks for the suggestion! The Family movie night is not a bad idea. That is something that we might be able to make work, maybe even with a sort of musical theme. Busking is something we have talked about. One of the limitations is that the group tends to learn a fairly small repertoire. This may go ahead but I think will be up to the more musical parents to lead, and probably not until after Christmas as the choir directors schedule is heavy over the holiday. Hapi Duck - we are looking for outside donations. Some people from inside are able to donate, but it is a fairly small group. The donations are for a larger project to renovate a space for a music room in the parish. So many people in the choir have already donated to the project as a whole. This project is in part to have the kids feel involved in working towards that project which will benefit them.
Dmmetler
Check with malls etc-when I was a school choir director, the local mall let groups sign up for shifts and come sing/play Christmas music-with a donation box or parent to pass the hat. We made quite a bit of money that way, especially my youngest kids :)
FriedClams
We needed to raise money for a robotics team. I drove kids to cold call businesses, and it was fairly well received. Our success rate was low, but when they hit, they hit big. We also did a veggie sale. Using a nearby distributor we sold IQF veggie bags. They were about $18-$20 a bag, delicious, great quality. People ask throughout the year when we're selling again. In my area, I'd gladly pay a group to be a yard army for a morning. Raking, clean up, etc. I'm happy to give a choir $100 for a couple hours, but I'm WAY too cheap to pay a yard service when I and my kids are healthy and able.

LMV
Our daughter's youth orchestra did* a playathon every year as fundraiser. *Actually I guess the orchestra still does the playathon but DD is now in college and no longer participating.
clementine
One fundraiser I have seen in our town is a Penny War. Split the group in half. Have them get donations of loose change - pulling a wagon through their neighborhoods gathering up loose change from neighbors, friends, and family. One teams wins a prize - candy or something small. Loose change adds up quickly!!
Dmmetler
Not so much for a elementary age group, but the high school dance team at one of the schools here has a great fundraiser-they do a kids dance clinic on a Saturday in November or December. Parents pay $35 or so for the day, which includes lunch and a t-shirt, and get a full day of babysitting so they can go Christmas shopping. They get sponsors who get their names on the back of the t-shirt (and I think the lunch is usually mostly donated as well). The high school girls, plus some parents and coaches, divide the younger girls up into groups and teach them a dance routine, which are put together into a short performance that is done at one of the school sports events, like a basketball game. My DD has done it for years and loves it. I could see something like this being a great fundraiser for almost any sports team or performing group.
