UncleEJ
How long did it take you to get used to the mask? I was recently diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and need a CPAP. I have done the second sleep study so the doctor can decide what pressure to use and the mask really bugged me. I tried a few different ones that night, some were better than others, but I know that I am going to have a hard time adjusting. I am sensitive to things on my face. I can't even make it through the night with a Breathe Right strip! I know this is important and I WILL get used to it! I am just curious how long this process might take. I don't have my machine yet but hopefully soon. Any tips or advice would be welcome!
KatieJ
Hugs! It's a learning, adjustment curve, but hang in there! Getting a mask that works for you is probably the hardest thing. If what you get doesn't work, try a different one. Ask at your service center place about return policies. My CPAP is so old, it feels like part of my face now. Seriuosly, I can't sleep without it. Jean in Newcastle
It took me a week to be able to sleep with it all night. It took a bit longer for it to become part of my nighttime face. What mask you can wear depends a bit on facial structure and whether your mouth opens at night or not, but I do best with the nasal pillow type of mask.

I have to have a full face mask because I can't breathe through my nose when I lie down. My sleep center is great, they allow you "rent" different masks to try before buying. Did you take it off part way through the night in the beginning?

In fact they told me that it was ok to do that. Put it on, try to fall asleep and keep it on even if it is only for an hour or two at first. Then gradually I slept longer before it would wake me and then eventually it was on all night.

I like this idea. It seems less daunting that way.
abba12
DH took about a month to stop pulling it off in his sleep. He did get used to it eventually though. It's quite normal to end up taking it off during the night for the first few weeks.
OnTheBrink
I have such severe sleep apnea, that I took to it immediately. I was afraid that I'd never get any sleep with that thing on my face, but it never bothered me. I was told the same things others have said, that it's normal to pull it off at first, or that just starting out for an hour or so will help in the beginning, but I never had any issues with it at all.
