nknapp5
If you are involved in CC Essentials what other items need to be added to it to make it a full language arts program? Spelling, Vocab, Comprehension? I know it includes writing and grammar, trying to figure out whatelse would have to be added. Thanks
DeniseF
There is a set of spelling rules (Orton Gillingham based) including advanced spelling rules and spelling lists that are 28 pages of the Essentials book. It's a good concise set of spelling materials but you may want more (we were already using a spelling system previously which we stuck with for simplicity. The spelling materials are included for use-at-home but it's not discussed in class. The vocabulary that is included is part of the IEW writing curriculum which includes approximately 60 words, appropriate for the context of the writing assignments. This is mainly studied at home but there are 3 or 4 quizzes throughout the year and the students are expected to include these words in their writing assignments. There is no comprehension component. I have 2 students in Essentials and by the time they enrolled in Essentials they did not need further work in this area. I am in my 3rd year of Essentials and have found it really valuable.
