No, the old one works fine.

We just skip most of the narration, copywork, poetry in FLL and just do the straight up grammar. We do almost all of it orally - good for wiggly boys!

I have started my kids in WWE2 in 2nd grade and just done our own copywork and narrations in 1st.

I love FLL! Simple, quick and effective for us. Dd who has gone all the way through, notices how thoroughly she has learned things from FLL and how helpful they are in Latin and writing.

^  Agreeing with this.

Four out of my six kids have used that older edition.  I have no plans on getting the newer edition to use with the younger two.  It's a great book; easy to get done, and easy to adjust the lessons as needed.
