Book recommendations

Recommended Posts

One of my kid's is in second grade and the books I planned for her to read aloud got too "easy" much faster than I had anticipated. So I will be saving those for her to read on her own free time reading. I need suggestions for quality books for her to read aloud to me. I'd like for them to be a little challenging to work on her fluency, pronunciation, and vocabulary. She's currently able to read books along the lines of Fantastic Mr. Fox, Nim's Island, etc. Any suggestions for age appropriate, quality books?

Also. She loves to read on her own time comics and graphic novels, so any ideas for those types of books would be great as well. She's really into Teen Titans Go, Tiny Titans, Batman '66, etc.

According to Scholastic Book Wizard, Nim's Island is a 4th grade reading level. Books at a higher level include:

Little House on the Prairie books. ( I didn't check them all)

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle

Wizard of Oz

Trumpet of the Swan

A Bear Called Paddington

Many fiction and nonfiction picture books would be in the right reading level. They can be less intimidating than a thick book with tiny print. You can use the Scholastic Book Wizard to check reading levels or find a book on a specific topic.

This!!  All of these are on my DD's 2nd Grade list (or ones she has already read on her own).  We also have All-of-a-Kind Family, Five Little Peppers, Mr. Popper's Penguins, Peter Pan, A Little Princess...the list goes on.
