IfIOnly
0We've been using OOO successfully for wart removal (even a plantar wart) and gum disease (one of the active ingredients in OOO is thymol the active ingredient in Listerine--the main ingredient is carvacrol though a powerful microbial). It's great for curing toe nail fungus too. Yay! After doing research, I'm going to try using it to treat my chronic sinusitis (could be bacterial or fungal in nature, not sure though-nothing I've tried conventionally has helped though), and I'm wondering if anyone has had success with OOO for sinus issues? One of my best friends recently cured an acute sinus infection rubbing peppermint oil externally over her sinus areas when even antibiotics weren't cutting it, so I'm hoping for success. I also have chronic ear pain and am recently trying OOO for that too (externally). I'd love to hear about others' success with OOO, especially regarding colds and flus. This will be my family's first cold season trying it, and I'd appreciate tips and success stories. Thanks in advance! ETA: An article on OOO if anyone's interested in further reading. http://www.naturalnews.com/024685_oregano_oil_of.html#
wapiti
You might look at aproduct called OregaResp. I don't have enough experience with either yet to know for sure, though I tried OOO capsules (Now brand) and they might be too strong for me. The OregaResp seems like it might help with my ds's asthma. Eta, I was talking internal. how is it going with your ear? Are you getting relief?
fraidycat
Good luck! I use OOO, but never "just" OOO, so I can't really give 100% credit to any one thing. During cold season I use oregano, diffused eo's, sambucol, colloidal silver, homemade fire cider, raw honey, far infrared heat, neti-pot, acv, etc. Depends on circumstances, symptoms, availability of what is in my cupboard, etc. The one thing I can credit individually is ACV. We used that to get rid of my son's plantar wart successfully, and so far no reoccurrence - that was 3 years ago.

I've read that even just inhaling or steam inhalation with the oil added has helped some, and that seems like it may be gentler than topical application or caps for sensitive individuals? I just started using it for my ears tonight, so there's not much to report yet. I'm just rubbing the oil externally and may use a cotton ball with some oil on it in my ears overnight too. Not sure on that one yet. Will let you know how it goes.

Do you apply it and then cover it with a bandaid, or do you soak the wart with it? How long does it take to work? I have used ACV for many things, but never for a wart. Thanks! IfIOnly
I'd be interested in your opinion re: OOO's efficacy for gum disease. I just did a bunch of research and found enough positive experiences to feel comfortable giving it a try. My gums used to be so painful and receding over the years. The OOO has stopped the sensitivity and receding. I never brush my tongue (terrible gag reflex), but since adding OOO to my dental care routine, my tongue is bright pink with no coating. Also, my teeth used to feel that gross fuzzy feeling just hours after brushing, but now my teeth feel cleaner than ever and longer than before after brushing. Basically, I brush my teeth and floss. Then, I put 3 drops of OOO on my tooth brush and brush again, especially along the gum line for at least 2 minutes. I gargle and swish with water and then spit it out. I do this twice a day but might drop down to just a night now that I'm seeing results. HTHs some.

How long does it take to work? I have used ACV for many things, but never for a wart. Thanks! Cut a small piece of cotton pad the same size as the wart, soak in ACV, tape over wart overnight. I used bandaid, then gauze wrap, then that colorful self sticking stuff to keep everything in place and on his foot overnight. I wasn't all that great at remembering to do it every night, so it took 3-4 weeks of 4-5 x/week. Every few days I would tweeze out the feathery stuff, using alcohol soaked pads to wipe the tweezers on before adding the ACV pad. One day the whole thing tweezed right out and left a hole. Within a couple days, it was healing over great, and it's been fine ever since. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I used the Bragg's organic stuff with the "mother".

In a few days you could see some of the smaller warts shrink and in about a week my son's plantar wart was less painful when he stepped on something that put pressure on it or applied pressure himself. About 1 month to several months total time (depending on the size and kind) though for them to totally disappear.

Did your gums come back in a way or just stop receding?
IfIOnly
Cat, I forgot, we did 3 drops on a bandaid for reg. warts and 5 drops for the planter. Some did this just night time, some did morning and night. Happi Duck, I have a high tolerance for strong, medicinal tasting stuff, especially if I know it's really helping. After about a week, I didn't really notice the taste so much. YMMV though. I do feel my gums are growing back and they're so pink and healthy now.

IfIOnly
Here's a blog with before and after photos that encouraged me to use OOO for warts. http://www.stacymakescents.com/easy-natural-wart-removalETA: Here's a link to OOO with good reviews from a brand that I trust and use several of their products: http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Wellness-Oil-of-Oregano-1-fl-oz-29-57-ml/1500 Another great company: http://www.iherb.com/Natural-Factors-Oil-of-Oregano-1-fl-oz-30-ml/22333I actually buy my OOO locally-ish from this company: http://www.bio-alternatives.net/buyoregano.htm It's has a really high carvacrol content.
38carrots
I can't sleep so I was inspired to go and brush my teeth with OOO. It stung only for about a minute. :w00t: The mouth feels great now. :D It wasn't a cure for my insomnia, though. :001_huh:

I couldn't gargle as long as they recommended because it was too painful. I think the alcohol in it was just too much for my sensitive gums. :/
Catwoman
I just wanted to mention that we use the Source Naturals Wellness brand of OOO capsules. The dosage is listed as 1-3 capsules per day. It is supposed to be 70% carvacrol and each capsule contains 45mg of wildcrafted oregano oil. How much OOO are the rest of you taking? I have heard that you should only take it when you have an infection or know you have been exposed to illness, but I recently read about people having success taking OOO for allergy symptoms and I'm wondering if it is safe to take it on a regular basis -- maybe one capsule per day or something? I have terrible post nasal drip from my seasonal allergies and I'm wondering if the OOO would work. I have also seen many different recommendations on how much OOO to take for an infection, so I'm curious about how much others are taking. Thanks! (And sorry about the thread hijack -- I don't want to make this all about me!)
Cottonwood
my teeth have never felt cleaner since I've started oil pulling with coconut oil and adding bentonite clay to my toothpaste. We've been able to speed healing in our sinuses by using a nettie pot and adding colloidal silver to the water in the pot. I include a pinch of salt and a pinch of baking soda. I rinse twice a day till I feel like I'm all better.
