Kon Marie vent

Don't take my vent as a reason to quit purging, because the odds of this happening are so tiny. And yet, it happened.  Just a few weeks ago, I was so desperate to rid, rid, rid, that I tossed a ton of good but outgrown kids clothes into a random donation bin instead of driving myself nuts with trying to sell bits and pieces.  This week, I learn a new second hand boutique is opening up, paying cash on the spot, not consignment.

:cursing:  :crying:  :svengo:   :willy_nilly:

Oh, well. I'm sure there's more in the bins dh is hauling out of storage.  But it still hurts!

I have no luck selling things, but I feel your pain. We have a local Facebook page for buy, sell, giveaway and I've been trying to join that page for months. The guy finally told me he wouldn't approve me because my Facebook is private enough that he can't see that I live in our town. Ok, I won't join the page, because I'm not changing my privacy settings. So I donated a truckload of things and hauled off more stuff. The very next day the guy tells me he's adding me to the group anyway.

I'm kind of agonizing because I donated a pair of cowboy boots bought for a show ds was in. Expensive boots only worn for the two weeks of the show run. Ds is not a boots kind of guy...but I'm wishing I could have sold those!

I feel your pain- and I hope you run across a nice batch of clothes to take to the consignment shop.

I'm definitely in the give-it-away camp. I will sell a few curriculum items but it is a small fraction of my donations. Once I read the statement, "Keep the river of giving flowing." I like that, and sometimes I am the recipient. I like to picture someone else happily finding my donated items at the thrift store.

I like that!! And we've been given so many clothes, passing them on is a way to be thankful.

I like to give wherever possible. The only thing I'm inclined to sell is curriculum because I don't know anyone to pass it down to right now. And if I send it to the op shop it's unlikely to reach people who really need it. Whereas by selling on a homeschool group I think it goes to the right people.

I just found out about a place here that does the same, just when I had decided to just donate it. I'm going to take it by but I'm not expecting much. I'm excited about the prospect of a bit of money but it would still be worth it to just give it away, like I usually do.  I do sometime think about it with regret but then it is nice to think of those who truly needied it being given what they need freely. I also was in the place to receive donations when our house burned, it sound ungrateful but too many times people give things not worth giving(not saying that we didn't also have so many donations that were exactly what we needed and helpful) but many create extra stress to the recipient and work for the donation centers, so I'm happy that I'm giving my nice stuff. So think about that too, it will be a blessing to someone and selling it is not without a cost as well, you have time and stress to arrange it all(or at least that is how it is for me- any extra appointments or stops is just another thing on my too long list, whereas donations are rather easily done, without preplanning). On the curriculum we have a lending library now so I donate a lot to that, except really higher dollar items, those are sold to raise funds for new curriculum(besides the fact that around here 99% of people use more traditional stuff anyway so it is a bit of a waste to donate it).

We messed up.  We had a lot of things going to Goodwill, but one box we set aside had new items we were going to give to the missionaries our church supports.  Unfortunately, the box with the new items got put in the van with the other items going to Goodwill.  We didn't realize it until later the next day so wasn't worth going back to Goodwill.

Here's your re-frame: God (The Universe) arranged it so that you would donate those lovely things so a young mom with barely two nickles to rub together will discover those lovely clothes on the rack at the donation store. So maybe you brought badly-needed joy to somebody. :)
