displace
For difficulty counting syllables: place hand under chin and say word and feel how many times mouth opens to count syllables. DS likes to breathe words into his hand to count syllables- breaths = syllables.
Mandamom
For counting syllables I teach humming. Kids with motor skills issues have issues with clapping and moving the mouth (dyspraxia) so humming is an easy way to identify the number of syllables. Can you divide syllables on a large piece of paper/chalkboard/white board? Standing up while coding (long/short) and dividing syllables can make it more kinesthetic than just doing it on a piece of paper.
