Beaniemom
I'm finally giving in and purchasing an electric kettle. Now I need recomendations. Are certain brands more reliable than others? Any brands to avoid?

umsami
We love ours to pieces. It's just a GE brand, but it's worked well. It looks like this one (although this is not a GE): http://www.amazon.com/Brentwood-KT-1780-Electric-1-5-Liter-Stainless/dp/B003YJ5L2Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1444406835&sr=8-1&keywords=GE+electric+kettle
Liz CA
I've had "Aroma" - I think from Target. But I would look for something you can insert your hand for better cleaning. Otherwise it works fine. Now and then I have to heat up some white vinegar in it to clean it because we have very hard water.
mellifera33
I agree with finding one that you can clean easily. I had a kettle that was open at the spout only, and after a few years in an extremely hard-water area, I think its capacity was halved. This was before I had heard of vinegar to remove scale. :)
Mabelen
I have a Black and Decker that works OK but I am not in love with it. The lid sometimes glitches and it will open while the water is boiling!

Kerileanne99
Can I just say that whichever you go with it it totally worth upgrading to a programmable one. I am old enough that waking up to water boiled at just the right temperature for tea in the morning is one of the best things about my day right now:)

Peach
I have a red Hamilton Beach that is shaped like the one umsami posted and it's a real workhorse. I've had stainless ones in the past and don't like how hot the outside gets. If you live in a hard water area like we do, I suggest only boiling enough water for what you need at the time , since they are so fast, and leaving the lid open to let it dry out after use. Don't leave any water sitting in it when not in use. This has kept my kettle free of mineral buildup for a very long time. I love these kettles though. A friend first got me one about 8 years ago after I burned up my third kettle on the stove :) I was so bad about putting it on, then getting busy and forgetting it.
