BrittanyM
My BIL is getting married on January 1st in Texas and I bought this dress to wear: http://m.dressbarn.com/mt/www.dressbarn.com/detail/lace-surplice-fit-and-flare-dress/102397100/956?un_jtt_v_usite=dressbarn&un_jtt_redirect But I will need a sweater and I'm assuming it should probably be a tan/nude color so as to not look too black (although the wedding colors are black and royal blue). What style and color sweater would you recommend? I am thinking that a "hangy" style or anything with a pattern/lace would not go well with this dress but am I right? I would like to stay under $40 for the sweater but preferably $25 or so. Is something like this: http://m.macys.com/shop/product/karen-scott-button-down-cardigan-only-at-macys?ID=2196533&CategoryID=260 too simple? Thank you for your tips... I am very fashion inept lol. Any shoe tips (I was thinking something with a small heel would be better than flats? Anything with much heel won't work) or jewelry ideas (I was just thinking nice earrings) would be welcome as well! TIA!
Jean in Newcastle
I would look for something silvery. Maybe a silver shawl?

snickerplum
I am by no means fashion forward :-) but what about a cropped sweater? http://www.modcloth.com/shop/cardigans/the-dream-of-the-crop-cardigan-in-ivory?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=G.SEM.US_NB.B_Dynamic-Search&gclid=Cj0KEQjwqNiwBRDnq93MioaqtKQBEiQAb7Ezn7STiZhORa8-KI4jzEVX61GIDge06RSx31Yjs0HpzJAaAhxM8P8HAQ https://www.etsy.com/listing/200674794/free-shipping-knit-bolero-short-cardigan?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_b-clothing-womens_clothing-tops_and_tees&utm_custom1=1571026e-20a7-fb48-635e-00005806cbab&kpid=200674794&gclid=Cj0KEQjwqNiwBRDnq93MioaqtKQBEiQAb7Ezn5RaGIniyFDYABiXP_ZgkHSFd8-2eMllEAESNaKzKkcaAj7z8P8HAQ
BrittanyM
Snicker plum I like the cropped sweaters those are cute! Jean I would never have thought of silver. I think I just got rid of a silver shawl a couple of months ago lol. Arctic I did not see that sweater when I was there! Guess I should have looked around more! BrittanyM
Also perhaps I should mention this is a fairly casual wedding. The groom and groomsmen will be wearing black jeans and royal blue long sleeve button up shirts with cowboy boots. I'm not sure what the bridesmaids are wearing (aside from royal blue and boots as well) but my daughter is a flower girl and her dress is pretty casual/western and lacy looking. So I don't want to go too dressy and look out of place in family photos.

I like the necklace listed up thread.
pehp
I would probably go with a wrap/faux pashmina rather than a cardigan--I think it's such an elegant look, but not so elegant to be out of place at a casual wedding (you can always ditch it). A slight heel always makes one's legs look better in a skirt, IMO. I'd definitely keep the heel slight, or even flat (I wore silver flats to a wedding in August--my kids were in it--I was soooo glad I did b/c I was very comfortable!....my legs didn't look as great as they do in heels, but I was okay with it!). The cowboy boots idea is cute (with a casual jacket), if that's your style (I could never get away with that style, but I like the look of it a lot!).
BrittanyM
The boots and jacket idea sound really cute, I'll have to look around for boots. I'm buying some for both my older kids anyway since they're in the wedding so why not?? Thanks for the ideas so far!
Aiden
I have no fashion sense whatsoever, so my vote for may actually need to be interpreted as a vote against, but I LOVE the dress and I LOVE the idea of wearing it with a cute denim jacket and boots. Love it, love it, love it!
whitestavern
I agree with PP who suggested a crop sweater. And I love the dress!
alisoncooks
(Sigh of relief) ***is very glad the idea of boots/denim jacket wasn't immediately poo-pooed** **lives in capris -- which apparently are passé**
