Ottakee
I am traveling to Amarillo with my girls in 2 weeks. I don't need fancy but want clean and SAFE. A microtel, Super 8, etc. level hotel is fine as long as it is in the SAFE area. Any hints of where to look? We will be going to NW Texas hospital to see where one dd was born. Then maybe the QH museum. We will also do Palo Duro canyon and the Cowgirls and Cowboys of the West trail ride. I can get a free room with points at Microtel, Days Inn East, Baymont, Days in Medical, Super 8, etc. but again I am having a hard time figuring out SAFE from the Trip Advisor site.
Corraleno
I've stayed at the Drury Inn & Suites a couple of times when we were at fencing competitions in Amarillo, and would definitely stay there again. It's not the cheapest option, but it was clean and very safe and the staff were great. There is also free hot breakfast, free soda & popcorn in the afternoons, and free "dinner" if you don't mind hot dogs, mac & cheese, and that sort of thing. Nice indoor pool, free wifi, free long distance. It's on I-40 on the west side of town. Good reviews on Yelp and Google:
Ottakee
The Drury Inn does look nice and the free supper and snacks would be a bonus. It is pricey though, esp, since I can get a free room at one of the other places..........IF those are safe. If not, I might just pay the higher price. Anyone else want to chime in? Happy
We've stayed at the Hampton Inn on I 40 in the last year or so. At least I think it was a Hampton Inn. Stay more on the west side of town, you'll be fine.
purplejackmama
My parents and kids stayed at the Residence Inn this week on I40. Everybody seemed to like it :)
Ravin
West side. East side tends to be older and a lot of them are run down.
Ottakee
Thanks. That helps. I was thinking east side to be closer to where I need to be in the morning but safety is top request.
Greta
I've only stayed in Amarillo overnight once. It was at the Country Inn and Suites on the far west side of town, and I felt it was very safe. Despite being close to I-40 it was a pretty quiet area, and the hotel itself was nice as well.
