RosieCotton
I'm buying art supplies, and need some help. From the great advice on another post, we got 2 sets of the Prismacolor pencils delivered last week at a great price. So nice! Suddenly every narration or copywork needs a picture drawn and colored. :) I'm looking at this washable tempura paint set -- this brand seems well priced, anyone use it? Is it low quality?? I've read it doesn't wash off skin or clothes well, but not a huge issue I guess. We can wear old clothes for artist time. These are 16 oz bottles, and I have a feeling we will fly thru them. I can't get gallons yet. http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?product=17009&es=237530000ESC&kpid=SWTALL&gclid=CIujiK-Om8gCFZaHaQod_aIIUA&kpid=17009#pr-header-back-to-top-link The more I save, I can buy other art supplies. :) Any suggestions?? We don't have rollers or sponges or other odds and ends yet, just brushes. I've got a few paint palette trays in the art drawer. Is there something that stands out to you that we should have for sure? We are doing arttango.com and having fun getting inspired by where our trails lead us. ChrisB
Unfortunately, I cannot speak to the quality of the tempera paint you linked. However, I will tell you what we use/have used and has gone over well. We use this tempera paint from Dick Blick, started with the 8oz. size until I knew which colors we used the most. I buy blue, red, yellow, black, white, and green. (Green only because I have one son who LOVES green.) If the kids want additional colors, and with some direction, I encourage them to play and mix the primary colors for secondary and tertiary colors. I usually take 50% off coupons to our local JoAnns for good watercolor paper. I think it's Strathmore. You could probably do this at your local Hobby Lobby or Michaels, too. Here are some addition items that we've found go over well: Caran d'Ache watercolor crayons, started with set of 10 Caran d'Ache watercolor pencils, started with set of 12 Sargeant glitter gel pens with decent coloring or doodle books (Usborne makes good doodle books) (or even lighter gel pen drawings on dark construction paper) Prang watercolor sets Have fun creating!! Carol in Cal.
I've been really happy with Biocolor and the liquid watercolor from Discount School Supply. I haven't tried their tempura, but it's probably good stuff. Biocolor has an additive that makes their flourescent paints glow in the dark, which is pretty cool. You have to purchase it separately. I love a lot of their other stuff, especially the packs of doilies and the plastic hollow ornaments.
CTVKath
I love the Colorations Simply Washable Tempera paint. Purple is the only color that is difficult to get out - it can leave a pink stain. (Of course, purple is my daughter's favorite color.) We love the colors and the quality. We also love the Colorations fingerpaint (same difficulty with purple) and gluten-free play dough. I've been happy with everything we've ever purchased from Discount School Supply.
hmvaughan4
I used it when I taught preschool. It worked well and was definitely the best price I could find.
Alessandra
I used DSS tempera, liquid watercolor, fingerprint, etc. I found the quality to be great! Make sure to check out their wire storage carriers for paint (sized to fit specific product lines) and other accessories. Wonderful company, I used them a lot for all kinds of educational materials when dc were young.

Jackie
I also use the Colorations tempera paints. They work well, they're inexpensive, and they come in quite a variety of colors. We also have some of the glitter colors from that line, which have turned out to be some of the best glitter paints I've ever seen.
carriede
We use Colorations Washable Tempura. I bought the basic colors, red ,blue, yellow, and white, and mix those to make other colors. I've never had trouble washing paint out of clothes, though we always use old t-shirts anyway.
