I am tempted to adopt more kids

I was informed tonight by one of mine that the reason our house is not clean is because we don't have enough kids here. She told me I should not be jealous that my friend has been blessed with 6 kids (mix of adopted and bio) and therefore has more kids to do the chores.

 

Maybe if I just adopt one or 2 more my house will be clean???? Think it will work????

 

My friend did offer to loan me 2 of hers to see if it would help.

I regularly remind my kids that the only reason I HAD kids was to make less work for myself.  So sure--get some more, and you can get busy popping bon-bons!

I took my son's dog out for a walk and a neighbor commented that she knew me, and knew the dog but didn't know we went together. I said "well that's why I have the kid, so I can get out of dog walking duties."

 

She looked at me in horror, like she couldn't believe I adopted the poor child just to use him as an unpaid dog walker.

I often joke around that I adopted my kids to have them do my chores.

 

Considering my house was CLEAN before kids and not so clean now with 4 kids I am not sure that adding 2 more kids would help the situation.

When my kids say that I'm mean, I tell them that's why I had kids. So I have someone to be mean to. Next time tell your neighbor that, maybe you can make her faint. ;)

I like that kind of joke, but my kid doesn't.  If she complains about chores and I say, e.g., "that's what I have kids for," she will snip "oh, so all I'm good for is being your slave.  Good to know."  Which is probably what I used to say to my mom when she tried that.  :P  (For the record, my kids' chores are very few and far between.  They consider it an imposition if I ask them to pick up their own stuff that they dropped.)

 

I was one of 6 kids.  I was the 3rd oldest, and the oldest girl.  I objectively did way more chores than the others.  The main reason being that I was least likely to fight doing them, forget them, or do them all wrong.  I used to resent that a lot, but one day I realized I was lucky to have the experience.  Anyhoo, just saying 6 kids isn't like 1 kid times 6.  ;)

 

When we were kids, we had family friends with 6 sons.  My mom always used to talk about how nice and helpful their boys were around the house.  (In contrast to us.)  So maybe it works for some people.  :)

I was also told that envy is a sin and that I was envious of my friend's clean house. Therefore to avoid sin I guess I need to let go of the clean house idea. :-)

 

I tried to tell her my friend was an encouragement and inspiration but this child thinks that avoiding envy (and cleaning) is a safer way to go.

Haha! I know you all are joking, but I had a foster family once that would take in lots of kids so we could do all the work. After they weren't able to foster anymore they hired a maid!

 

My daughter will tease me and start calling herself Cinderella if I give her extra on top of her normal chores, but we all work together here. She routinely sees me busting my butt and it is all in jest.

Wait, my kids are supposed to be slave labor? I have been doing it all wrong.

 

My house is a mess. Towels, flippers, swim paddles, competition suits, goggles, swim bags constantly being tripped over by the entrance to the garage. Shoes and hoodies in the living room because everyone seems to think it is a giant closet. Debris from the yard that the dog tracks in everywhere. Living out of the laundry basket because we all hate putting clothes away. All this time I was supposed to have lots of kids to do chores?
