ereks mom 461 Report post Posted September 27, 2015 We took way too long on Beowulf--but the girls enjoyed it! The next book on our list is 1001 Arabian Nights by Geraldine McCaughrean. The girls don't comprehend well unless we take it slow and easy, so which chapters would you say we shouldn't miss, and which chapters are okay to skip? FWIW, I noticed that the Beautiful Feet Medieval Guide suggests reading only ch.1-8, 16-17, 23-26, and 30-35. Another reading guide (I can't remember which one right now) suggests reading only ch.1-5, 23-26, and 33-35. What do you think?

Aurelia 1,950 Report post Posted September 27, 2015 The Beautiful Feet guide is a pretty good one. It keeps the story framing, plus the stories of Sinbad, Ali Baba and the 40 thieves and Aladdin, plus a couple of others. The other one cuts out Ali Baba and nearly all the other stories, so it's almost nothing but Shaharazad's marriage, Sinbad and Aladdin.
ereks mom 461 Report post Posted October 14, 2015 Thanks! I think we're going to do: chapters 1-5 (intro/marriage & Sinbad stories) chapters 16-18 (Ali Baba stories & one more in which Shahrazad & the king discuss her trickery) chapters 23-26 (Ala al-Din/Aladdin stories) chapters 30-35 (conclusion)
