stephanier.1765
I got back yesterday from a 10 day trip for my eldest son's wedding to discover one of my cats in pretty bad shape. As soon as the vet doors opened this morning, I was there and discovered my indoor only cat had broken his femur and will have to have surgery. I am so upset by this but I'm really upset that he had been living with this pain for a week. My poor little buddy.
ktgrok
Poor thing. In good news, cat fractures usually but not always heal well. Especially young cats. With kittens it's ridiculous how fast they heal.
Cinder
:( Oh no! I hope your cat is better soon! Any idea how it happened? Did something fall on him? I sometimes worry our cats will get themselves in a situation that something big will fall on them and hurt them. I can't think of what, except maybe the books on the bookcases. So far, though it's only been papers and empty boxes. :grouphug:
stephanier.1765
His pet sitters told me nothing had been knocked over or out of place. So weird. He's a big cat so maybe he hurt himself jumping out of his tree. He certainly isn't known for his gracefulness.
Woodhaven
Oh, how sad! Hope he heals quickly. So, the cat sitters didn't notice anything wrong with him?
stephanier.1765
They did but thought it was a sprain but as soon as I got home and saw him I knew it was bad.
stephanier.1765
Brought him home this morning. He had broken the ball at the top of the femur where it fits into the hip socket. The vet had to cut that off and now muscle will have to replace it. He is presently sleeping peacefully (and hopefully painlessly) at my feet.
