lgliser
My kids learn so well when things are put to chants or jingles. I'm glad we got the cd for First Language lessons because some of the recordings are chants, like the prepositions. They have songs too but we can't understand the singer very well. I'd love to incorporate more chants/songs/jingles in our learning. We just started Prima Latina this year and I'm not sure they have any.... Can anyone suggest any good resources or even a different curriculum that includes these? Thanks!
SnMomof7
We do a lot of these in our Together Time. Geography Songs from audio memory (their grammar cd has some interesting ones about punctuation, and Shurley Grammar has many songs as well), talkingfingervideos kn YouTube for spelling songs, it has most of the songs from their spelling song CD. Various you tubes for grammar songs. We sing a LOT of scripture songs from various places. We Choose Virtues songs. We learned all the Prime Ministers of Canada from a YT song. We use the Classical Conversations app for skip counting songs (they have some Latin songs on there too for endings). We have a Latin Songs CD from CBD which is far more comprehensive though.
tm919
Shurley english has jingles... I have grown to loathe them but I guess they work... after only 1.5 years, I feel vaguely nauseous when hearing "This little noun, floating around..." Tranquility7
I don't actually like learning much to songs since sometimes the song or chant is kind of annoying/unmusical/whatever, and sometimes the amount of actual content in the song makes it not worth the effort to learn the song. But there are a *few* songs we have learned that have served us VERY well! Our is to the tune of Yankee Doodle. Lyrics are below. Our favorite . Wish we could find a better recording of it, but this older gent has totally grown on us :-) When we started listening to him we had never heard the tune before, so we looked up other YouTube videos of the Martins and the Coys song to get a firm grip on the tune. It is a fun one. Also, lyrics are below. For other Latin grammar, we like the Lyrical Latin CD, with the exception of the 5 declension songs and the 3 verb tense songs... the song I linked above has all 5 declensions in ONE song, so IMHO it is far more efficient than learning five different songs. Also, we had already learned the verb tenses before finding the CD. However, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the four pronoun songs!!! Memorizing those pronoun paradigms is really challenging, so those four songs alone are well worth the price of the CD to me! The kids also like the Roman history songs although I've not really paid much attention to them yet. We also like the Veritas Press timeline songs and US presidents song. Jacbeaumont
What about the Classical Conversations songs for history? I don't have them myself, but heard they are great. Plan to get them in the future. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
lgliser
talkingfingervideos kn YouTube for spelling songs, it has most of the songs from their spelling song CD. I can't find anything like this on YouTube. Could possibly link one? Thanks! Our favorite . Wish we could find a better recording of it, but this older gent has totally grown on us :-) That guy is great! Catchy tune too :) We just started Latin this year (Prima Latina). I barely understand what a declension is. Are we really going to learn all of that ?? And we'll actually understand what it means? What stage of Latin do you learn all of this? I'm excited!! Thanks, EVERYONE for the suggestions. I found a lot of them on Google Play!
