MooCow
I've edited my post to this one question: if a child is behind in math (using saxon), can you switch to a harder math (Singapore) using obviously a much lower level, and successfully bring them up to speed so to speak? Update: I have decided to drop Saxon and start a mastery program instead. Thank you for help/ideas! :)
kiana
How old is he and what Saxon is he working on? Is he behind because of lack of instruction or because he just doesn't get it? Good answers for you are going to depend on your responses there.
KarenNC
I would be hesitant to move a child who was having difficulty with Saxon's pace into Singapore. We went the opposite direction around 4th grade because Singapore moved too quickly for my daughter and caused all kinds of issues for her. kbutton
If the Singapore approach works for that child, and if you are comfortable teaching it, I think it could work, but you really need to do the placement test. A lot of people who are playing catch up use CLE to assess and fill in holes for their kids, or the light blue Math Mammoth series. You might consider that as well. amsunshine
This sounds like Saxon is just not a good fit for him. Singapore is relatively cheap and quite elegant in it's presentation. Sounds like it might be a good idea to try it.
kiana
How old is he? What curricula have you already tried? You've mentioned Math Mammoth, Khan, Saxon.
