mom31257
I would like to create a really colorful, printable document. I'm wanting to make some bookmarks for my book club. I don't know very many programs, but I'm willing to learn.
Hen
Canva is an online program and mostly free, you can buy nice stock photos to use for a dollar or so, but if you use your own photos, than it is free. It's pretty easy to use, too.
Alessandra
Sketchbook is a great, free program. It uses layers, which is a plus and a minus. Plus, because you get a lot of flexibility, minus in that there is a learning curve. Sketchbook allows you to draw, import photos, and use type. But it takes a good afternoon to learn. If this is a one time thing and you have MS Word, could you use that? It is pretty powerful if you use all the function. You can rotate type, resize and rotate pix, wrap type around pix, etc. If you run into a problem, google your problem and lots of results shoals come up. If you already have Photoshop, you can use it for design, but it is a bit tricky. ETA In MS Word, I just typed 'Bookmark' into a text box, made the text box transparent and put it on top of my avatar. But for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to post it here, lol.

Yes, this is a one time thing. I guess I just don't know all the functions of Word. I had no idea you could do all that. I might try to explore it a bit and look at some tutorials online. What about Publisher? Is that easy to use or learn? I'm wanting to create some bookmarks that are colorful and will have text, too. I'd like them to have some references while they are reading to help facilitate the next book club discussion, literary terms and such. I have a Mac, so my menus will differ a bit from those on the PC. But you can Insert a picture from the drop down menu at the top of the screen. Also crop, resize, rotate. The easiest way to do text is to Insert + Text Box. Then you can move the text around, rotate, etc. Make it transparent to go over the pix. I do badly with tutorials -- too much info and I forget. I usually google my version of Word + what I want to do and then follow the directions on the fly. YMMV. Two shortcuts -- Dover bookmark books and free printable bookmarks. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=dover+bookmarks http://www.graphicgarden.com/files17/eng/print/bookmark.php
73349
You could use Word (with text boxes) or Publisher for that. I'd use Word and make, say, four identical text boxes across the page. Make one that you like and you can copy and paste it as many times as you want. Then you can put in pictures and text.
SebastianCat
I absolutely love Publisher, but I've been using it for many years. It's my go-to for anything involving both pictures and text. It's much easier to manipulate pictures within Publisher (I think) than Word.
AndyJoy
I vote Publisher. I find it to be much more intuitive and easier to use than Word for this!
