Guest Tara4Boys
My son is currently a 2nd grader. Highly dyslexic. We began homeschooling last year and JUST did Barton Reading and Spelling to really get him going on reading and Math-U-See. He's made progress and this year, I'm trying to give him a more well-rounded education. Last year with Barton, the only "grammar" it taught was reading a sentence and telling what phrase in the sentence was a "who phrase", a "did what phrase", or a "where phrase" (the curriculum uses terms like nouns or verbs). Also doesn't teach much capitalization or punctuation. I want to start First Lessons in Language but I'm unsure whether to start in Level 1 or Level 2. I've heard that Level 1 is sort of "noun overkill". Is there anyway to shorten book 1 and then work into book 2??? Or should I cover nouns on my own and start book 2 when we get through learning about nouns? Thanks so much!
SilverMoon
You could get an old combined 1/2 edition and just pick out the parts of 1 you want. :) Otherwise I'd just go with 2. You can always repeat lessons as needed since it's not consumable.
Alane35
I used first language lessons and writing with ease, and it is very thorough. The great thing about homeschool is you can use what you need and skip the areas you dont. Maybe still go through book 1 so he doesn't struggle with book 2, but skip any areas you see as overkill. Im sure he will do fine.

Peaceful Isle
Maybe you could do First Language Lessons 2 along with Writing with Ease 1. I do writing one year behind for my son, and it is working out great.
kalusignan
We also do writing 1 year behind - so, FLL2 along with WWE1. Having done FLL1 and now currently using FLL2, you really could just start with 2. It's not significantly harder, both have been very easy and straight forward, and you will still cover nouns in FLL2. Also, almost of all the work is done orally, so it's a good fit for auditory learners (I don't know if your son is more auditory, but I guess it's more likely since he's dyslexic). Hope that helps!
