BrettW
My 8th grader is a decent speller but she doesn't know the "rules" because we never formally did a spelling program. She's asking to do one this year. I've done spelling with my younger son using AAS but we started with Level 1 when he was in 2nd grade. This year, he's doing Level 5. I can't really see starting my daughter on the early levels of AAS as it's a early elementary level! Even starting her on Level 5 seems babyish for her. Workbooks are okay, but my concern is that a workbook alone might have poor retention. Any suggestions on spelling for her? She's an older 8th grader (almost 14). 8filltheheart
How to Teach Spelling,TM only. It contains spelling words and dictation appropriate for 1st-12th. Just pick what you think she needs.
JanetC
Spelling Works by Jim Halverson Covers common spelling pitfalls, doesn't review phonics, great for someone who is already a decent speller.
Chrysalis Academy
How to Teach Spelling,TM only. It contains spelling words and dictation appropriate for 1st-12th. Just pick what you think she needs. Seconding this, although I'm actually finding the workbook (How to Spell Workbook 4) useful, alongside the TM. foxbridgeacademy
I like Phonics Zoo for teaching rules. I only purchased the PDF for $10 and made up my own cards but if I were to do it again I'd buy the full budget pack for $29. I don't think the whole set with CD would work in my house, plus $89 is outside my budget for Spelling. The words are definitely for older kids, check out the sample on IEW's website. MyLittleBears
The Logic of English essentials can be done in about 16 weeks. I does cover grammar also but you can skip those parts.
