Tiramisu
I wanted to figure out if dd might be ready for algebra, so I gave her the Saxon middle grades placement test. She got most of the 87 material wrong and all but one of the algebra 1/2 material right, though I had her stop before finishing after I saw the 87 level results. 87 and 1/2 cover most of the same topics so I don't know what to think. It could have been an effect of the med kicking in by the time she hit the 1/2 page. If so, she obviously is going to really need them. I think I'm going to have her work through a CLE light unit and re-evaluate. But wow.
PeterPan
Uh, doesn't it just mean she needs the meds in her system before she does math? :) Can you go back and finish the algebra 1/2 test and see what happens? If she's on her meds for the whole thing, I'd run with it. Nothing worse than to torture a child with review they don't need.
Storygirl
:iagree: DS11 does so much better on math when he is medicated. I'd be tempted to put it away for a few days or a week and then have her retry it while medicated. It's an interesting thing!

If she's on her meds for the whole thing, I'd run with it. Nothing worse than to torture a child with review they don't need. I have two options. The first is to have her start the CLE light unit. So many topics are covered that I'll be able to see what her weak areas are. The other option is to use another program's placement test. When I looked at the results the decimal related questions, it seems particularly shaky. Math Mammoth has what looks like a good, inexpensive review book of fractions and decimals, so if that area seems weak, I could use bits of that as necessary.
