In the past a lot of the first novels of great authors were written at a really young age, like Frankenstein and Sense and Sensibility (both authors were 19 at the time of writing). Even more recently a lot of first books (or the books that get authors recognized) are written by authors in their 20s -- White Teeth and Everything is Illuminated come to mind. Edit: Another that I really loved was A Pale View of Hills. If it's under 30 right now, I think I'd have a harder time coming up with a list!
