katilac
Should I put dd's COMPASS scores on her transcript in addition to ACT? She took the ACT one time. Her score is nice and high, but that and COMPASS are the only outside testing scores we have. No subject tests or AP scores.
klmama
I would not include the COMPASS on the transcript.

Her score is nice and high, but that and COMPASS are the only outside testing scores we have. No subject tests or AP scores. I didn't put the Compass score onto the transcript. However, I did mention in the course description for the math course before my son started math at the CC. So for algebra 2 I said something like: "At the conclusion of this course, student tested into community college pre-calculus." I figured that let me use the Compass score as some outside verification of the course in which he'd learned what was tested.

And you might want to look to see if SAT Subject tests would be of benefit. Would they be considered or required by any of the colleges she's applying to? If her score on ACT is high, does is cross the threshold for any automatic merit aid? Would taking it again help her move up a category? Just an example or two: Miami University http://miamioh.edu/admission/merit-grid/ University of Alabama http://scholarships.ua.edu/types/out-of-state.html West Virginia University http://undergradscholarships.wvu.edu/freshman/non-resident

She has 5 dual enrollment courses completed at a local university, and 6 planned for senior year, so we've been considering that as part of her outside validation. Her score does cross the threshold for the highest levels of automatic merit aid at her top schools, thank goodness, and it's above the cutoff scores for the competitive merit programs. Her writing score was pretty dreadful, but her combined English/writing is still in the 95th percentile, and she has A's in 2 college level composition courses. Plus, 43% of people who retake get the same score or lower, and the higher your initial score is, the more likely that is to happen. She would implode if she got a lower score, so rolling with this one seems safest for everyone's sanity. But we are trying to sort out if subject tests make sense and are possible, just in case.
Lori D.
No. An ACT score will be fine. If you are wanting to show higher level work, have your student take some AP courses/tests or CLEP tests, or dual enrollment. If the student has any dual enrollment courses on the transcript, it will be understood that the student had to take the COMPASS or other college placement test in order to be admitted to the community college or university in order to take the dual enrollment. Scores on AP or CLEP tests, or the grades and GPA for the dual enrollment courses will be much more significant on a transcript than COMPASS or other placement test scores. :) BEST of luck in deciding on which, if any tests to take in the high school journey. :) Warmest regards, Lori D.

Your dd's DE classes will show plenty of outside verification. Sounds like she is in a terrific position for a high school senior. :hurray:
