Mandamom
I think I'm whining :) I am determined to get my Masters Degree in Education (Literacy/Reading) -- it must be online, low cost and not have too many weird requirements. Basically I want the reading degree and don't need nor want any kind of public school teacher requirements. I'm happy to stay in private schools. You'd think it would be easy but there are too many options (most don't work for me) and wading through the websites has been exhausting. I think I found a total of about 3 places in the many websites I've looked for that I might be able to do. Even then they might be too much money. Ugh! I just want the right one to appear on my screen -- NOW
Renai
Have you seen Concordia Online? I'm getting my MA in a year, and although I have a license, it isn't necessary. http://education.cu-portland.edu/ ETA: Also Walden University. All of their classes require access to children (that I remember), but you can use your own.
DragonFaerie
I'm getting my MA in English and Creative Writing from SNHU. They do have both an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction- Reading and an MEd, Reading and Writing Specialist.
Plateau Mama
I hear ya! I've been researching the same thing. I don't have to do online (but it would be nice). Every dang school has different prerequisites for me since my bachelors is science and not arts. The school I graduated from won't take any of my credits and says I have to basically get a second bachelors (30-45 credits) before they will award me a teaching certificate but hey you can do both programs at once! (Like that's happening with 4 kids.)
Mandamom
I'm getting my MA in English and Creative Writing from SNHU. They do have both an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction- Reading and an MEd, Reading and Writing Specialist. I keep coming back to this school. They also offer the Masters in Dyslexia and LBLD which are the students I have been working with for the past 8 years. The cost is a higher than I think I can afford. I'm keeping this one in mind though.

(Like that's happening with 4 kids.) Exactly! The time I'm spending doing this "research" is the time that I should be using to actually complete my degree -- if I ever figure out a place to apply. It has been 20 years since I've been to college so I'm feeling like there's a whole new world out there in education. The school ads that are all over my Facebook (and other websites) are getting out of control. It is like a reminder that I'm failing at this search. Plateau Mama
I graduated 18 years ago. Since then I've homeschooled for 7 years. Taught homeschool classes and done tons of volunteer work with kids. You'd think that would count for something but nope. One school says I have to have 60 hours of work with kids in the last three years, which I have way exceeded but the kicker is 30 hours have to be in the public school. Never mind I never intend to work in the public school!
Plateau Mama
The other thing that kills me is they all have different start dates. One starts spring quarter only. Another had a deadline of June 14th for fall. Another starts summer. Ugh!

cathmom
The research takes forever. Well, less time than the PhD ;-), but I spent one calendar year researching and one calendar year preparing to apply/applying/waiting with bated breath.
